Tena Bed Secure Zone 90*80

TENA Bed Secure Zone are bed pads for incontinence that help protect a mattress overnight, so that a leak means changing one pad rather than stripping and washing a whole bed. They go on top of the mattress and under the bottom sheet or directly beneath the person, and they are used alongside a pant or a brief rather than in place of one. Please tell our pharmacist the bed width and how heavy the leaks are before you order.

TENA Bed Secure Zone: Bed Pads for Incontinence That Protect the Mattress

TENA Bed Secure Zone are bed pads for incontinence that help protect a mattress overnight, so that a leak means changing one pad rather than stripping and washing a whole bed. They go on top of the mattress and under the bottom sheet or directly beneath the person, they absorb and lock away urine away from the skin, and they are used alongside a pant or a brief rather than in place of one.

A bed pad is the cheapest layer in continence care and the one most often left out. Changing a wet sheet, a mattress protector and a blanket at three in the morning takes twenty minutes and a load of laundry; changing a pad takes two minutes. For anyone caring at home, that difference decides whether the household gets any sleep, and it is why we recommend a pad alongside whatever the person wears in bed rather than as an alternative to it.

What Size and Absorbency You Need

The range is made in several sizes, and the figure that matters is the absorbent area rather than the overall sheet. The smaller pads measure 60 by 40 cm and hold about 800 ml, the 60 by 60 cm pad holds about 1,450 ml, and the 60 by 90 cm pad holds about 2,350 ml.

There is also a version measuring 180 by 80 cm overall, which has an absorption zone of 90 by 80 cm in the middle and a wing of 45 by 80 cm on each side that tucks under the mattress, holding about 2,300 ml. Please tell our pharmacist the width of the bed, how much the person moves in their sleep and how heavy the leaks are, and we will match the pad to all three. A larger pad placed well is usually better value than a small one changed twice a night.

Placing Bed Pads for Incontinence Properly

Lay the pad with the soft, cloth-like side facing upwards towards the skin and the plastic-backed side down against the mattress or the sheet. Smooth it completely flat, because a crease both leaks and presses into the skin of somebody lying still for hours.

Position the absorbent area under the hips and buttocks rather than centred on the bed, since that is where the urine arrives. A pad can go directly against the skin or under the bottom sheet: directly against the skin absorbs faster, while under the sheet feels more like an ordinary bed and is usually more comfortable for somebody who is awake and aware. Where the person moves a lot, the version with wings that tuck under the mattress stays put far better than a loose pad.

Single Use, and Changing Them

These are disposable and single use. They go into the bin rather than the wash, and a disposable pad put through a washing machine comes out destroyed and sheds its absorbent core, which is worth knowing before anyone tries it.

Change a pad whenever it is wet, and check it at every turn and before settling for the night. A pad is there to catch what gets past the pant or brief, so if you are changing pads several times a night the pant or brief is the thing to look at rather than the pad, and our pharmacist can go through the grades with you.

The Pad Protects the Bed, and the Skin Needs More

A pad keeps urine off the mattress and away from the surface of the skin, and that is the whole of what it does. Skin damage in somebody who lies in bed comes from moisture and from pressure together, and pressure needs separate measures.

So at every change, wash gently with warm water or a mild cleanser, pat the skin completely dry rather than rubbing, and put a thin layer of barrier cream on any redness. Look at the buttocks, the base of the spine, the hips and the heels. Reposition the person regularly through the day and the night, keep the heels off the mattress where you can, and please ask us about a pressure-relieving mattress overlay or cushion, which is a different product and does a job no pad can do. Redness that stays after the pressure comes off, broken skin, a blister, or a dark or purple patch needs our doctor the same day.

Please Have the Cause Looked At

Where someone has started wetting the bed, or has got worse over recent weeks, the change itself deserves a look rather than only being managed. A urine infection, constipation, uncontrolled diabetes, a newly started medicine and a prostate problem are all common and several respond quickly to treatment.

Please come and see us if the bedwetting is new or worsening, if the urine is cloudy, strong-smelling or bloodstained, if there is fever or new confusion, if the person is in pain, or if the bladder feels full after passing urine. Sudden inability to pass urine at all needs the same day. Where a child over the age of five is wetting the bed, please bring them to our doctor rather than only buying pads, because bedwetting at that age is both common and treatable.

What We Can Honestly Tell You

We are currently out of stock on this size. Send our pharmacist the bed width, the leak volume and how much the person moves, and we will tell you when it is back and offer the nearest size we hold in the meantime.

The version with wings that tuck under the mattress is the one we would suggest for anybody who shifts position in their sleep, so ask about TENA Bed Secure Zone with wings. And a pad works best alongside a brief rather than instead of one, so if the person is cared for in bed, ask about TENA ProSkin Slip Plus at the same time.

Is This Bed Pad Right for You or the Person You Care For?

Please talk to our pharmacist before you buy if any of these apply.

  • You have not told us the bed width or the leak volume. The sizes run from 60 by 40 cm at about 800 ml to 60 by 90 cm at about 2,350 ml, and the wings version holds about 2,300 ml.
  • The person moves a lot in their sleep. A loose pad shifts. The version with wings that tuck under the mattress stays put.
  • You are changing pads several times a night. The pant or brief is the thing to review, rather than the pad.
  • You were planning to wash and reuse them. These are disposable. A washing machine destroys the absorbent core.
  • Redness that stays after the pressure comes off, broken skin, a blister, or a dark or purple patch. Our doctor the same day, and ask us about pressure relief.
  • New or worsening bedwetting, cloudy or bloodstained urine, fever, new confusion or pain; or a child over five wetting the bed. Please come and see us rather than only buying pads.

Living abroad? Order from wherever you are and we deliver to your family here in Kenya. Kenyans in the UK, the United States, Canada, South Africa and the Gulf order from us regularly for parents and relatives at home. TENA Bed Secure Zone: Your Questions Answered

What do bed pads for incontinence actually do?

They protect the mattress and keep urine away from the surface of the skin, so a leak means changing a pad rather than stripping and washing a bed.

Do I still need a pant or a brief as well?

Yes. A pad catches what gets past the garment. It works alongside a pant or brief rather than in place of one.

What sizes and absorbency are available?

60 by 40 cm at about 800 ml, 60 by 60 cm at about 1,450 ml, 60 by 90 cm at about 2,350 ml, and a 180 by 80 cm version with wings holding about 2,300 ml.

What is the absorption zone?

On the wings version it is the absorbent middle section, 90 by 80 cm, with a 45 by 80 cm wing each side that tucks under the mattress.

Under the sheet or against the skin?

Either. Against the skin absorbs faster; under the sheet feels more like an ordinary bed and is usually more comfortable for someone awake and aware.

Where exactly should I place it?

With the absorbent area under the hips and buttocks rather than centred on the bed, because that is where the urine arrives.

Can they be washed and reused?

They are disposable and single use. A washing machine destroys the absorbent core, so they go in the bin.

How often should a pad be changed?

Whenever it is wet, with a check at every turn and before settling for the night.

Mine keeps shifting during the night. What can I do?

Use the version with wings that tuck under the mattress. A loose pad moves with the person.

Will a pad prevent bed sores?

It manages moisture, which is one of the two causes of skin damage. Pressure is the other and needs repositioning and a pressure-relieving overlay or cushion.

When should we see the doctor?

New or worsening bedwetting, cloudy or bloodstained urine, fever, new confusion or pain. Sudden inability to pass urine needs the same day.

My child over five wets the bed. Are pads the answer?

Pads help in the meantime, but please bring them to our doctor. Bedwetting at that age is common and treatable.

This one is out of stock. What now?

Send our pharmacist the bed width and the leak volume. We will offer the nearest size we hold and tell you when this returns.
