TENA Pants Normal XL: the Everyday Grade in the Largest Size
TENA Pants Normal help someone with moderate leakage get through an ordinary day in underwear that looks and feels like their own, holding 1,010 g and sitting at five and a half out of eight on the protection scale used across the TENA range. They are the everyday grade rather than the night-time one, they suit men and women alike, and this is the XL, fifteen to a pack.
XL fits a waist or hip measurement of 120 to 160 cm, which is the largest pull-on size TENA produce. That matters because the usual reason a pant fails at this end of the range is that somebody has been sold an L and told to make it work: it rolls at the waist within the hour and leaks because it is stretched out of shape rather than because it ran out of capacity. Please measure before you order.
Which Grade You Actually Need
There are four grades of TENA pull-on pant: Normal holds 1,010 g, Plus 1,440 ml, Super 2,010 ml and Maxi 2,550 ml. This is the Normal, the starting point, and for a great many people with moderate daytime leakage it is all they ever need.
The sensible way to buy is to start here for the day and go up a grade only where the day proves it. Tell our pharmacist how many changes you get through, whether the leaks come with a sudden urge or on coughing and standing, and whether the nights are the problem or the days. A pant that is holding comfortably to the next change is the right grade, however modest it looks on paper.
Fifteen to a Pack, and What That Costs You a Month
Fifteen pants is three to five days at a normal change schedule, so full-time daytime use runs to six or seven packs a month. That is the figure worth planning around, and it is why the pack size matters as much as the price per pack.
Tell our pharmacist how you intend to use them and how many months you want covered, and we will set up a standing monthly delivery at a quantity that fits, in plain outer packaging with a delivery note that names nothing. Running out is the thing that actually disrupts people in this category, and it tends to happen quietly rather than with a phone call to us.
Wearing TENA Pants Normal
They go on in place of underwear rather than over it, because a pant pulled on over briefs sits away from the body and leaks at the leg. Pull them up like ordinary pants and smooth out the folds at each leg, since a fold becomes a channel straight to the edge.
When a wet one comes off, the side seams tear open, so it comes away at the hip rather than down over the legs. They are single use, so into the bin rather than the wash, and please keep every part of one out of the toilet. Change three to five times a day and always before the pant reaches capacity, which for this grade means acting on the feel of weight rather than waiting for wetness.
Looking After the Skin
Skin kept damp turns sore, and sore skin takes far longer to settle than it takes to avoid. This is the part of continence care that people skip and then pay for.
At each change, wash gently with warm water or a mild cleanser, pat dry rather than rubbing, and put a thin layer of barrier cream on any redness. Thin is the word, because a heavy layer sits between the skin and the pant and slows absorption. Ask our pharmacist for the right cream with your first order and we will show you how little to use. Where redness persists, or there is broken skin, itching, a rash in the groin folds or any discharge, please come and see us, since a fungal rash and a urine rash look similar and are treated quite differently.
Moderate Leakage Is the Stage Worth Treating
At this grade the leaking is usually still at the stage where treatment changes the outcome, which is exactly why it is worth seeing our doctor rather than settling into pants for good. In women, pelvic floor weakness after childbirth and changes after menopause are the commonest causes, and supervised pelvic floor training helps a great many people. In men the prostate is the usual cause, and a good many prostate problems respond to tablets first.
Please come and see us if the leaking is new or getting worse, if it comes with a sudden urge you have to run for, if it happens on coughing, laughing or lifting, or if the bladder feels full after passing urine. Blood in the urine, pain or burning, fever, or a sudden inability to pass urine at all need seeing the same day. Where someone is being changed lying down in bed rather than dressing themselves, an all-in-one brief is the easier product, so ask about TENA ProSkin Slip Plus.
What We Can Honestly Tell You
For moderate daytime leakage at a large waist measurement, this is the right place to start and the pack of fifteen is the most economical way we sell it. It is deliberately the lightest of the four grades, which is the point: most people do better in the lightest pant that holds to the next change.
Where the nights are the problem, the answer is a grade up for the night only rather than this pant more often, so ask about TENA Pants Maxi at 2,550 ml. And where the bed is getting wet, a bed pad under the sheet is a cheaper fix than a heavier pant.
Is This Incontinence Pant Right for You?
Please talk to our pharmacist or our doctor before you buy if any of these apply.
- You have not measured. XL covers 120 to 160 cm at the waist or hip. Under 120 cm, the L is the size and it will fit better.
- A pant has rolled down at the waist before. That is a size too small rather than a brand problem. Send us the measurement.
- Leaking at the leg opening. Usually a size too large, or a fold left in at the leg when it went on.
- The nights are wet but the days are dry. A heavier grade for the night only, rather than more of this one.
- Redness that does not settle, broken skin, or a rash in the groin folds. Please come and see us rather than carrying on.
- Leaking that is new or worsening, comes with a sudden urge, or follows coughing and lifting; or blood in the urine, pain, fever or sudden inability to pass urine. Our doctor, and the same day for that second group.

How much does TENA Pants Normal hold?
1,010 g, which is five and a half out of eight on the protection scale used across the range.
Is Normal enough for me?

How many are in the pack?

Do I wear them over my underwear?

How often should they be changed?
Three to five times a day, and always before the pant reaches capacity. At this grade, act on the feel of weight rather than waiting for wetness.

Usually a size too large, or a fold left in at the leg when it went on. Send us the measurement and we will check.

Wash gently, pat dry rather than rubbing, and a thin layer of barrier cream on any redness. A heavy layer slows the pant absorbing.
