TENA PROskin Slip Plus 10’s

TENA ProSkin Slip Plus help a carer keep someone clean, dry and comfortable when that person is in bed or in a chair for most of the day, because the brief fastens around the body with re-fastenable tabs rather than being pulled on over the legs. It sits at six out of eight on the protection scale used across the TENA range, and it is the product to choose where the wearer is changed by somebody else. Please send our pharmacist the hip measurement before you order.

TENA ProSkin Slip Plus: the All-in-One Brief for Care in Bed

TENA ProSkin Slip Plus help a carer keep someone clean, dry and comfortable when that person is in bed or in a chair for most of the day, because the brief fastens around the body with re-fastenable tabs rather than being pulled on over the legs. It sits at six out of eight on the protection scale used across the TENA range, and it is the product to choose where the wearer is changed by somebody else.

This is the one decision that people most often get wrong in continence care. A pull-on pant suits somebody who dresses themselves and walks to the toilet, and an all-in-one brief suits somebody who is changed lying down or seated, because the carer can open both sides, roll the person once and fasten a fresh one without moving their legs through anything. Where you are buying for a parent or a patient who stays in bed, this is the right shape of product.

TENA ProSkin Slip Plus Sizing Is Taken at the Hip

Slip Plus is made in five sizes and each one holds a different amount: XS fits a hip of 49 to 74 cm and holds 1,350 ml, S fits 56 to 85 cm and holds 1,550 ml, M fits 70 to 122 cm and holds 2,100 ml, L fits 92 to 150 cm and holds 2,350 ml, and XL fits 120 to 160 cm and holds 2,400 ml.

So the size changes the capacity as well as the fit, which is why we ask for a measurement before anything ships. Put a tape measure round the widest part of the hips while the person is lying flat, over a light garment, and send our pharmacist the figure in centimetres. Where the measurement falls in an overlap between two sizes, tell us the person’s height and build as well and we will take the decision with you. A brief that is too big leaks at the leg whatever its capacity, and one that is too small cuts in at the hip and marks the skin.

Fitting One Properly

Most leaks in a well-chosen brief come from how it went on rather than from the brief itself. With the person on their back, fold the brief lengthways down the middle and tuck it between the legs, bring the front up over the abdomen, and run a finger round each leg cuff to turn it outward so the cuff stands up rather than folding flat.

Fasten the lower tabs first, angled slightly upwards towards the groin, then the upper tabs more horizontally across the hips, snug enough to take two fingers under the waistband. The tabs re-fasten, so one can be opened to check the fit and closed again. Smooth out every fold, because a fold is a channel straight to the edge. Leaving the leg cuff folded under is the single commonest cause of a leak and it takes two seconds to correct.

Changing TENA ProSkin Slip Plus, and How Often

Change three to five times a day and always before the brief reaches capacity, with a check at every turn and settling for the night. For somebody in bed, the change is also when the skin gets looked at, which matters more than the brief.

These are single use, so into the bin rather than the wash, and please keep every part of one out of the toilet. Where you are caring at home, a bin with a lid beside the bed and a box of disposable gloves within reach makes the whole routine faster, and ask our pharmacist to add both to the order.

The Skin Is the Real Job

Somebody who is in bed and incontinent has two things working against their skin at once: moisture, and pressure from lying in one position. Both have to be managed, and the brief only deals with the first.

At each change, wash gently with warm water or a mild cleanser, pat the skin completely dry rather than rubbing, and apply a thin layer of barrier cream to any redness. Thin is the word, because a heavy layer sits between the skin and the brief and slows absorption. Look at the buttocks, the base of the spine, the hips and the heels every time. Redness that stays white when you press it is a warning; redness that persists after the pressure comes off, broken skin, a blister, or any dark patch needs our doctor the same day. Please also turn or reposition the person regularly and ask us about a pressure-relieving mattress overlay or cushion, which is a separate product from anything in this category and does a job no brief can do.

Please Talk to Our Doctor as Well

Where someone has become incontinent recently, that change itself is worth investigating rather than simply managing. A urine infection, constipation, a new medicine, uncontrolled diabetes and a prostate problem are all common causes, and several of them are straightforward to treat.

Please come and see us if the incontinence is new or has worsened over weeks, if the urine is cloudy, strong-smelling or bloodstained, if there is fever or confusion, if the person is in pain, or if the bladder feels full after passing urine. Sudden inability to pass urine at all needs seeing the same day. Where the person is also constipated, treating that alone sometimes improves the bladder a good deal, and our pharmacist can go through it with you.

What We Can Honestly Tell You

For a person cared for in bed, this is the right product and the tabs are the reason. Ten briefs is two to three days at a full change schedule, so plan on nine or ten packs a month for full-time care and tell our pharmacist so we can set up a standing monthly delivery in plain outer packaging.

Where the person still walks to the toilet and dresses themselves, a pull-on pant preserves more independence and we would rather sell you that, so ask about TENA Pants Normal. And a disposable bed liner under the sheet alongside the brief protects the mattress for a fraction of the cost of going up a grade.

Is This Adult Brief Right for You or the Person You Care For?

Please talk to our pharmacist or our doctor before you buy if any of these apply.

  • You have not measured the hips. The five sizes run from 49 cm to 160 cm and each holds a different amount. Send us the figure first.
  • The person walks to the toilet and dresses themselves. A pull-on pant suits them better and costs less.
  • Leaking at the leg. Usually a folded leg cuff or a size too large rather than too little absorbency. Let us check both.
  • Redness that persists after the pressure comes off, broken skin, a blister or a dark patch. Our doctor the same day, please, and ask us about pressure relief.
  • Incontinence that is new or has worsened over weeks, cloudy or bloodstained urine, fever, confusion or pain. Please come and see us rather than only buying briefs.
  • Sudden inability to pass urine at all. The same day.

At three to five a day a pack covers a known length of time, so tell us how many months you want covered and we will work out the quantity with you before you order.

We have sent orders to Uganda, Tanzania, Somaliland and as far as Malawi, and we will quote for Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and the rest of the continent. TENA ProSkin Slip Plus: Your Questions Answered

What is the difference between a slip and a pant?

A slip fastens around the body with tabs, so a carer can change it with the person lying down. A pant is pulled on over the legs and suits somebody who dresses themselves.

What sizes does Slip Plus come in?

Five. XS fits a hip of 49 to 74 cm, S 56 to 85 cm, M 70 to 122 cm, L 92 to 150 cm and XL 120 to 160 cm.

Does the size change how much it holds?

Yes, and that surprises people. XS holds 1,350 ml, S 1,550 ml, M 2,100 ml, L 2,350 ml and XL 2,400 ml.

How do I take the measurement?

Round the widest part of the hips while the person is lying flat, over a light garment. Send our pharmacist the figure in centimetres.

How do I fit one without it leaking?

Turn each leg cuff outward so it stands up, fasten the lower tabs angled upwards, then the upper tabs across the hips. A folded leg cuff is the commonest cause of a leak.

Can the tabs be opened and closed again?

Yes. They re-fasten, so you can open one to check the fit and close it again.

How often should it be changed?

Three to five times a day and always before it reaches capacity, with a check at every turn and before settling for the night.

Can they be washed and reused?

They are single use. Into the bin rather than the wash, and please keep every part out of the toilet.

What skin care goes with it?

Wash gently, pat dry rather than rubbing, and a thin layer of barrier cream on any redness. A heavy layer slows the brief absorbing.

Does the brief protect against pressure sores?

It manages moisture, which is one of the two problems. Pressure is the other, and it needs repositioning and a pressure-relieving mattress overlay or cushion, which we sell separately.

When should we see the doctor?

Incontinence that is new or worsening, cloudy or bloodstained urine, fever, confusion or pain. Sudden inability to pass urine at all needs the same day.

How many will we get through in a month?

Ten briefs is two to three days at a full change schedule, so plan on nine or ten packs a month for full-time care.

Can you deliver every month?

Yes, in plain outer packaging with a delivery note that names nothing. Tell us the hip measurement and the quantity you need.
