Accufast Lh Ovulation Test Mid Stream

This Accufast ovulation test kit helps you find your fertile window by catching the hormone surge that comes before an egg is released, so you know which days to try rather than guessing. Start testing about 4 days before you expect to ovulate, around day 10 or 11 on a 28-day cycle. TEST IN THE AFTERNOON, NOT FIRST THING — the opposite of a pregnancy test. It is positive only when the test line is as dark as the control line. Please ask our pharmacist to work out your start day.

Accufast Ovulation Test Kit: Find the 2 Days in the Month That Matter

This Accufast ovulation test kit helps you find your fertile window by detecting the hormone surge that comes before an egg is released, so you know which days to try rather than guessing. It is a midstream test, used directly in the stream, and it reads in minutes.

A low level of luteinising hormone sits in urine all month. Around the middle of a cycle it rises sharply, and that surge is what triggers the ovary to release an egg. A test that catches the surge gives you roughly a day and a half of warning, which is the whole point: by the time ovulation has happened, the useful window is nearly over. The kit measures that hormone and shows the result as two lines you compare against each other.

When in Your Cycle to Start Testing

Count day 1 as the first day of your period, and begin testing about 4 days before you expect to ovulate. That depends on your own cycle length, so work from the table rather than from a standard month.

On a 26-day cycle, start around day 8. On a 28-day cycle, start around day 10 or 11. On a 30-day cycle, start around day 12. On a 32-day cycle, start around day 14. If your cycles vary, count from your shortest one in recent months, which gives you a margin.

Then test once a day at the same time each day until you get a positive, and stop for that cycle once you have one. Women with short or unpredictable surges sometimes test twice a day, morning and evening, because a surge can come and go inside 24 hours.

Why You Avoid First Morning Urine With an Ovulation Test Kit

This is the opposite of a pregnancy test, and it is the thing most women get wrong. On a pregnancy test the first urine of the morning is the best sample, because it is the most concentrated.

On an ovulation test it is the worst one. The surge usually begins in the early hours, and the hormone takes around 12 hours to show up in urine, so a sample passed at six in the morning frequently misses a surge that started overnight. Test between late morning and early evening instead, using the second urine of the day or later, and keep to the same time daily. Somewhere around two in the afternoon suits most people.

And go easy on fluids for 2 hours beforehand. Diluted urine weakens the test line and is the commonest reason a genuine surge reads as negative.

Reading the Result

Remove the cap to expose the absorbent tip, hold the stick with the tip pointing downwards, and wet it thoroughly in the stream. Lay it flat with the windows facing up and read within the time the leaflet gives.

An ovulation test is read differently from every other test you have used, and this is where people go wrong. The control line, marked C, confirms the test worked. The test line, marked T, shows the hormone level. A faint T line means a negative, because a little of this hormone is present all month.

It is positive only when the T line is as dark as the C line, or darker. Anything lighter means keep testing tomorrow. A blank C line means the stick has failed and needs replacing.

What to Do on the Day You Get a Positive

Have sex that day and the next day, and if you managed the day before as well, better still. Ovulation follows roughly 24 to 36 hours after the surge begins, the egg survives only about 12 to 24 hours once released, and sperm live in the body for up to 5 days.

That combination is why waiting is the wrong instinct. Sperm already in place when the egg arrives is the arrangement you want, so the day of the positive and the day after are the 2 days that matter most. Starting a day or two earlier costs nothing and widens the window.

Stop testing once you have a positive. A fertility supplement such as Fertipil Plus for Women works on the months around this rather than the days, so the two are worth running together, and our pharmacist will add the folic acid every woman trying to conceive should be taking.

Is an Ovulation Test Kit Right for You?

Ovulation tests suit most women trying to conceive and there are situations where something else serves better. Please ring our pharmacist or our doctor if any of these apply:

  • You have polycystic ovary syndrome. The hormone can sit high all month or surge more than once, so these tests often read positive repeatedly without an egg being released. Our doctor can track your cycle in a way that works.
  • You are on fertility medicine or have had a trigger injection. Several of them affect the reading directly. Follow your clinic rather than a stick.
  • Your periods are very irregular or absent, so there is no day to count from. Our doctor can find out why, which is more useful than testing blindly through a long cycle.
  • You have tested through 3 cycles and found no surge. That is worth investigating rather than repeating, and our doctor can arrange the blood test that settles it.
  • You have been trying for 12 months, or 6 months if you are 35 or over. Please see our doctor, and bring your partner, because roughly half of difficulty conceiving involves a male factor.

Our pharmacists will work out your start day with you and show you how to read the lines, and our doctor is here when the question turns clinical.

FAQs

When should I start using an ovulation test kit?

Count day 1 as the first day of your period and start about 4 days before you expect to ovulate. On a 26-day cycle that is around day 8, on a 28-day cycle around day 10 or 11, on a 30-day cycle around day 12, and on a 32-day cycle around day 14. If your cycles vary, count from your shortest recent one, which gives you a margin.

Should I use my first urine of the morning?

No, and this is the opposite of a pregnancy test. The surge usually begins in the early hours and the hormone takes around 12 hours to reach urine, so a six o’clock sample often misses a surge that started overnight. Test between late morning and early evening, using the second urine of the day or later, at roughly the same time daily. Around two in the afternoon suits most people.

Why does drinking water matter?

Diluted urine weakens the test line and is the commonest reason a genuine surge reads as negative. Go easy on fluids for 2 hours before testing.

How do I know when it is positive?

An ovulation test is read differently from any other test. The control line, C, confirms the test worked. The test line, T, shows the hormone. It is positive only when T is AS DARK AS C, or darker. A faint T line is a negative, because a little of this hormone is present all month. A blank C line means the stick has failed.

I got a positive. When should we try?

That day and the next day, and the day before as well if you managed it. Ovulation follows roughly 24 to 36 hours after the surge begins, the egg survives only about 12 to 24 hours, and sperm live in the body for up to 5 days. Sperm already in place when the egg arrives is the arrangement you want, so waiting is the wrong instinct.

How many tests will I need in a month?

Plan on 5 to 10 in a cycle, and more if your cycles are irregular, since you test daily from your start day until you find the surge. Buying a single test is rarely enough to catch it. Ask our pharmacist how many your cycle length suggests.

Should I keep testing after a positive?

No, stop for that cycle. The surge has done its job of telling you when to try, and further tests simply add cost and worry.

Can I test twice a day?

Many women do, morning and evening, because a surge can come and go inside 24 hours and a once-daily test can pass straight over it. If your cycles are short or unpredictable, twice daily is worth the extra sticks.

Does a positive test guarantee an egg was released?

It is a strong signal rather than a guarantee. The surge can occasionally happen without an egg following it. If you get positives month after month with no pregnancy, please see our doctor, who can confirm ovulation with a blood test taken at the right point in the cycle.

Why do I keep getting positives with PCOS?

In polycystic ovary syndrome the hormone can sit high all month or surge more than once, so these tests often read positive repeatedly without ovulation following. They are a poor tool in that situation. Our doctor can track your cycle in a way that actually works, and treat the underlying problem.

Can medicines affect the result?

Several fertility medicines act on this hormone directly, and a trigger injection affects the reading. Hormonal contraception stops ovulation altogether, so testing while on it tells you nothing. Antibiotics and painkillers have no effect. Ask our pharmacist to check anything you take.

I have tested for 3 cycles and never found a surge.

That is worth investigating rather than repeating. Please see our doctor, who can arrange a blood test that confirms whether ovulation is happening and look at the reasons it might not be. Three cycles of testing is enough information to act on.

Should I take anything alongside this?

Folic acid, from now rather than from a positive pregnancy test. Every woman who could become pregnant needs 400 micrograms daily, and it protects the baby in the first few weeks, before anybody is certain. Our pharmacist will set it up, and can add a fertility supplement if you want one.
