Pregnancy Test With Weeks Indicator: a Result, and an Estimate of How Far Along
This Accufast pregnancy test with weeks indicator helps you find out both things at once: whether you are expecting, and roughly how long you have been. It is a midstream stick, used in the stream, and the extra lines estimate how far along you are rather than simply confirming a yes.
An ordinary test answers one question. This one reads the strength of the pregnancy hormone as well, and shows it across several test positions marked T1 to T4. Because the hormone roughly doubles every 1 to 2 days in early pregnancy, how much of it is present is a reasonable guide to how recently the pregnancy began. That is what the weeks reading is doing.
What the Weeks on the Test Actually Mean
Read this before you compare the number with anything, because it is the part that confuses most people and no test box explains it well. The weeks a test estimates are counted from around conception. The weeks our doctor will use are counted from the first day of your last period, which is roughly 2 weeks earlier.
So a test suggesting 3 weeks corresponds to somewhere near 5 weeks in the way a clinic will date you. Both numbers are correct and they are measuring from different starting points. Women reach a midwife convinced the test was wrong, and it was simply answering a different question.
Treat the weeks reading as a rough indication rather than a date. Hormone levels vary enormously between women at the same stage, and a twin pregnancy produces far more of it. The only reliable dating is an early ultrasound, which our doctor can arrange, and that scan is what every later date in the pregnancy will be based on.
How to Use a Pregnancy Test With Weeks Indicator
Take the stick out of the foil and remove the cap to expose the absorbent tip. Hold it by the thumb grip with the tip pointing downwards and keep it that way throughout, so urine stays out of the housing.
Pass urine onto the tip only until it is thoroughly wet, then lay the stick flat with the windows facing up and set a timer. Read the result within 5 minutes. Each test is single use.
Use your first urine of the morning. On an ordinary test that matters for accuracy; on this one it matters twice over, because a dilute afternoon sample will under-read the hormone level and give you a weeks estimate that is lower than the truth.
Colour in the control position with no colour elsewhere means not pregnant. Colour in the control position together with colour at T1, or T1 and T2, and so on, means pregnant, with more positions reading as the hormone level rises. No colour in the control position at all means the test has failed and needs replacing.
Who This Test Suits
It suits a woman with irregular cycles who has no reliable last period to count from, and a woman who has been waiting a long time for this result and wants as much information as the first test can give. It also helps when the dates genuinely matter straight away, such as where a long-term medicine needs reviewing early.
For everybody else, a plain midstream pregnancy test answers the question for a fraction of the price, and our doctor dates the pregnancy properly at the first appointment anyway. Our pharmacist will tell you honestly which of the two is the better buy for your situation, and quite often it is the cheaper one.
What to Do Once It Reads Positive
Start folic acid today, 400 µg a day. The baby’s neural tube forms and closes within the first few weeks, which on this test is often the very window you are looking at. A prenatal such as Pregnacare Max covers it, and our pharmacist will set it up while you are ordering.
Then ring us for our doctor, with the first day of your last period worked out if you can, for dating, an examination and your antenatal booking. Bring the test with you, or a photograph of the window taken inside the reading time, since the weeks reading is useful context even though the scan will settle the date.
And if you were taking a fertility supplement, stop it and bring it to the counter. Several of them contain vitamin A and herbs such as vitex and red clover that belong to the months before a positive test rather than after it.
Is a Pregnancy Test With Weeks Indicator Right for You?
This is a midstream test with an estimate attached, and the estimate has limits worth knowing. Please speak to our pharmacist or our doctor if any of these apply:
- You want a date you can rely on. Only an early ultrasound gives that. The weeks reading is a guide, and hormone levels vary widely between women at the same stage.
- The weeks reading seems far off what you expected. Remember it counts from conception while a clinic counts from your last period, roughly 2 weeks earlier. If it still seems wrong, ring our doctor rather than retesting repeatedly.
- You are on fertility treatment. An hCG trigger injection reads positive for up to 2 weeks and will distort the weeks estimate as well. Follow your clinic’s testing date.
- A pregnancy ended within the last 2 months. Hormone can remain for up to 60 days, which affects both the result and the estimate.
- The test is positive and you have one-sided pain, shoulder-tip pain, unusual bleeding or faintness. Come in the same day, or go to the nearest hospital. A test reads positive just the same when a pregnancy has implanted outside the womb.
Our pharmacists will tell you which test is worth your money and how to read what you get, and our doctor is here to date the pregnancy properly and start you on antenatal care.

FAQs
How does a pregnancy test with weeks indicator know how far along I am?
It reads the strength of the pregnancy hormone rather than simply whether it is present. hCG roughly doubles every 1 to 2 days in early pregnancy, so how much is in your urine is a reasonable guide to how recently the pregnancy began. The extra test positions, marked T1 to T4, light up as the level rises.
Why does the number differ from what my doctor says?
Because the two are counted from different starting points. The test estimates weeks from around conception. Our doctor counts from the first day of your last period, which is roughly 2 weeks earlier. A test suggesting 3 weeks corresponds to somewhere near 5 weeks in the way a clinic dates you. Both are correct and neither is a mistake.
Can I rely on the weeks reading for my dates?
Treat it as a rough indication. Hormone levels vary widely between women at the same stage, and a twin pregnancy produces far more. The only reliable dating is an early ultrasound, which our doctor can arrange, and that scan is what every later date in the pregnancy will be based on.
Does it matter what time of day I use it?
More than on an ordinary test. Use your first urine of the morning. A dilute afternoon sample will under-read the hormone and give a weeks estimate lower than the truth, so you get a correct yes with a misleading number attached.
Is it worth the extra money over a plain midstream test?
Honestly, for many people it is not, and our pharmacist will say so. A plain midstream test answers the question for a fraction of the price, and our doctor dates the pregnancy properly at the first appointment anyway. Where it earns its keep is for a woman with irregular cycles and no reliable last period to count from, or where the dates matter immediately because a long-term medicine needs reviewing.
How do I use it?
Remove the cap to expose the absorbent tip, hold the stick with the tip pointing downwards and keep it that way, and pass urine onto the tip only until it is thoroughly wet. Lay it flat with the windows facing up and read within 5 minutes. Each test is single use.
What do T1, T2, T3 and T4 mean?
They are the positions that respond as the hormone level rises, and the leaflet in your pack maps them to a weeks range. Colour in the control position with no colour at any T position means not pregnant. Colour in the control position with one or more T positions means pregnant. No colour in the control position at all means the test has failed.
There is no line in the control area. What now?
The test has failed and the result means nothing. Check the expiry and that the pack has been stored cool and dry, and use a fresh stick. Heat and damp are the usual causes, and so is holding the tip upwards so the housing floods.
My result is positive. What comes first?
Folic acid the same day, 400 µg, because the baby’s neural tube forms and closes in the first few weeks, which on this test is often the very window you are looking at. Then ring us for our doctor, with the first day of your last period worked out if you can, for dating, an examination and your antenatal booking.
When is a positive result urgent?
If it comes with pain on one side of the lower abdomen, bleeding unlike your normal period, pain at the tip of a shoulder, faintness or dizziness. Come in the same day, or go to the nearest hospital for sudden sharp pain. A test reads positive just the same when a pregnancy has implanted outside the womb, so the result alone gives no reassurance about that.
Will fertility treatment affect the weeks reading?
Yes. An hCG trigger injection is the same hormone the test measures, so it reads positive for up to 2 weeks afterwards and distorts the estimate as well as the result. Follow your clinic’s testing date rather than your own.
Should I keep testing each week to watch the number rise?
Please do not spend money that way. The estimate is too approximate to track a pregnancy with, and watching it repeatedly causes far more worry than it settles. If you want to know the hormone is rising as it should, our doctor can take two blood tests 48 hours apart, which measures the level itself and gives a real answer.
This one is out of stock. What else will tell me I am pregnant?
Any of our other tests will answer the question just as reliably, including the midstream kit, the cassette and the strips, since all of them measure the same hormone. What they leave out is the weeks estimate, which our doctor replaces with a scan. Ask our pharmacist and we will tell you when this one is back in.
