Fertipil Plus for Women: Daily Support While You Are Trying to Conceive

Fertipil Plus for Women is taken once a day by women who are trying to conceive, to support normal hormone balance, ovulation and egg quality while you wait. It is a 30-capsule pack, one month at the standard dose, and it is made for the months before a positive test rather than the ones after it.

Each capsule carries 17 ingredients, among them folic acid 165 µg, zinc 10 mg, selenium 20 µg, vitamin E 20 mg, inositol 50 mg, vitamin B6 6 mg, vitamin B12 6 µg, vitamin A 1000 IU, and a 160 mg proprietary blend of Siberian ginseng, red clover and vitex, also called agnus-castus. Vitex is the one most women recognise, because it is the traditional herb for cycle regularity.

How to Take Fertipil Plus for Women

Take 1 capsule in the morning after a meal with at least 300 ml of water. While you are actively trying, the dose may be increased to 3 capsules a day, taken after food. Keep to a maximum of 3 capsules in any day.

The maker’s own instruction is to take it for up to 6 months, or until pregnancy is confirmed. Women vary enormously here: some conceive within a month and others take considerably longer, which reflects differences in ovulation, hormone levels and general nutrition rather than anything about the capsule. Please let our pharmacist help you decide how long to keep going, and talk to our doctor if 6 months pass without a positive test, because at that point the useful question changes from supplements to investigation.

Folic Acid: the Figure That Matters Most Here

Read this part before you order, because it is the thing most likely to matter to your baby. The folic acid in this capsule is 165 µg at the standard 1-capsule dose. The recommendation for every woman who could become pregnant is 400 µg of folic acid a day, started at least 1 month before conception, because the baby’s neural tube forms and closes in the first few weeks, often before a woman knows she is expecting. Starting at the first antenatal visit is too late to prevent those defects.

So at 1 capsule a day this gives you well under half the folic acid you need, and only the 3-capsule dose reaches it. The simplest answer is to take a separate 400 µg folic acid every day alongside this, and our pharmacist will set that up with you — a prenatal such as Pregnacare Max covers it, or plain folic acid on its own, which costs very little. Women with a previous pregnancy affected by a neural tube defect, and women with diabetes, epilepsy or a raised BMI, need a much higher dose that only our doctor should set.

Fertility Is Usually a Two-Person Question

Roughly half of difficulty conceiving involves a male factor, and the sensible move is for both partners to be supported at the same time rather than one at a time. The maker recommends that a partner takes Fertipil Plus for Men alongside this, which is built around sperm quality and count. There is also a version for women with PCOS, which is a different formulation for a different problem, and our pharmacist will tell you which of the three suits your situation.

And the other half of the picture is timing. A supplement supports the cycle; knowing when you ovulate tells you when to try. An ovulation test such as the Recare LH ovulation cassette identifies the 2 fertile days that matter most in a cycle, and for many couples that single piece of information does more than anything in a capsule.

What to Expect, Honestly

This is a food supplement that supports the conditions for conception rather than a treatment that causes it. Many of its ingredients have genuine roles in reproductive health: zinc and selenium in normal fertility and reproduction, folic acid in protecting a developing baby, B6 and B12 in normal hormone activity, and vitex in cycle regularity. What none of them do is work quickly, so give it months rather than weeks, and judge it alongside cycle tracking rather than on feel.

Take it with food, keep to the 300 ml of water, and expect the B vitamins to turn your urine bright yellow, which is harmless and simply means you are absorbing them.

Is Fertipil Plus for Women Right for You?

This is a fertility support supplement for women actively trying to conceive. Please speak to our pharmacist or our doctor before starting if any of these apply:

  • You are already pregnant. Stop this and switch to a proper prenatal. This formula contains vitamin A and herbs including vitex and red clover, which belong to the trying-to-conceive stage rather than to pregnancy itself.
  • You take hormonal medicine, fertility treatment, or anything for thyroid, epilepsy or diabetes. Vitex acts on hormone signalling and red clover has oestrogen-like activity, so both need checking against what you already take.
  • You have had breast, ovarian or uterine cancer, endometriosis or fibroids. The oestrogen-like activity of red clover means our doctor should make this decision rather than a shelf.
  • You already take a multivitamin, a prenatal or a vitamin A supplement. Bring everything to the counter so we can add it up, particularly the vitamin A, which has a ceiling in pregnancy.
  • Six months have passed with no positive test, or you are over 35 and 6 months have passed. Please see our doctor. That is the point where tests for both partners find answers that a supplement will miss.

Our pharmacists will go through your whole list with you, and our doctor is here when the question becomes a clinical one rather than a nutritional one.

FAQs

How long does Fertipil Plus for Women take to work?

Give it months rather than weeks. The maker’s instruction is to take it for up to 6 months or until pregnancy is confirmed, and women vary widely: some conceive within a month and others take considerably longer. That reflects differences in ovulation, hormone levels and nutrition rather than anything about the capsule. If 6 months pass without a positive test, please see our doctor.

How many capsules should I take a day?

1 capsule in the morning after a meal with at least 300 ml of water. While you are actively trying, the dose may be increased to 3 capsules a day after food. Keep to a maximum of 3 in any day. Ask our pharmacist which dose suits you, because the higher dose also raises your intake of vitamin A and the herbs.

Is the folic acid in Fertipil Plus for Women enough on its own?

At 1 capsule a day it gives 165 µg, and the recommendation for any woman who could become pregnant is 400 µg a day, started at least 1 month before conception. Only the 3-capsule dose reaches that figure. The straightforward answer is to take a separate 400 µg folic acid alongside it every day, which costs very little, and our pharmacist will set it up with you. Women with a previous neural tube defect pregnancy, diabetes, epilepsy or a raised BMI need a much higher dose that our doctor should set.

Can I keep taking it once I get a positive test?

Please stop and switch to a proper prenatal, and bring the pack to our pharmacist. This formula is built for the trying-to-conceive stage: it contains vitamin A, and herbs including vitex and red clover, which belong before pregnancy rather than during it. A prenatal with 400 µg folic acid takes over from the day the test is positive.

What is vitex, and what does it do?

Vitex, also called agnus-castus or chasteberry, is a traditional herb used for cycle regularity and hormone balance, and it is the ingredient in the 160 mg blend alongside Siberian ginseng and red clover. Because it acts on hormone signalling, it needs checking against any hormonal medicine, thyroid treatment or fertility treatment you already take. Ask our pharmacist.

Should my partner take anything?

Roughly half of difficulty conceiving involves a male factor, so supporting both partners at once makes sense. The maker recommends Fertipil Plus for Men alongside this, which is built around sperm count and quality. Our pharmacist will set the pair up together.

Is there a version for PCOS?

Yes, and it is a different formulation for a different problem rather than a bigger pack of the same thing. If you have been told you have polycystic ovary syndrome, ask our pharmacist which of the three Fertipil products suits you, and speak to our doctor about whether anything else should run alongside it.

Will it regulate my periods?

Some women find their cycle settles, which is usually attributed to the vitex. Treat that as a possible effect rather than the purpose. Irregular periods have causes worth identifying — thyroid problems and PCOS are common ones — and our doctor can run the tests that find them, which is more useful than waiting to see whether a supplement helps.

Does it have side effects?

Most women take it without trouble. Mild stomach upset and nausea are the usual reports and are less likely when it is taken after a meal with a full glass of water. The B vitamins turn urine bright yellow, which is harmless and simply means you are absorbing them. Anything that persists, ring our pharmacist.

Can I take it with a multivitamin?

Bring both to the counter and let us add them up first. The one to watch is vitamin A, which has a ceiling for women who may become pregnant, and it is easy to exceed when a multivitamin, a prenatal and this are all taken together. Our pharmacist will sort the combination out in a couple of minutes.

How will I know when I am ovulating?

A supplement supports the cycle; an ovulation test tells you when to try. An LH ovulation test identifies the surge that comes before ovulation and points to the 2 days in the cycle that matter most. For many couples that single piece of information does more than anything in a capsule, and our pharmacist can show you how to use one.

When should we see a doctor instead?

After 12 months of trying under the age of 35, or after 6 months at 35 and over, and sooner where periods are very irregular or absent, where there is known endometriosis or PCOS, or where either partner has had pelvic surgery or an infection. Our doctor can arrange tests for both of you. Going earlier costs you nothing and often saves a year.

Is it a prescription medicine?

No, it is a food supplement and you can order it from us directly. Our pharmacist is still worth two minutes before you start, mainly to check the herbs against anything else you take.
