2-Piece Urostomy Maxi 60mm(Transparent)

This urostomy bag helps you collect urine from a urinary stoma without it sitting back against the skin, because a non-return valve inside the pouch keeps what has drained from running back towards the stoma when you change position. It is the pouch half of a two-piece system with a 60 mm coupling, a tuck-away outlet and a multichamber pouch that lies flat under clothing. Please ask our pharmacist about the matching plate and a night drainage bag before you order.

A Two-Piece Urostomy Bag With a Non-Return Valve

This urostomy bag helps you collect urine from a urinary stoma without it sitting back against the skin, because a non-return valve inside the pouch keeps what has drained from running back towards the stoma when you stand, sit or lie down. It is the pouch half of a two-piece system, so it clicks onto a base plate that stays on the skin, with a 60 mm coupling, a tuck-away outlet and a multichamber pouch that lies flat and quiet under clothing.

A urostomy is different from the bowel stomas and the product has to be too. Urine arrives continuously, it is thin, and anything that lets it pool against the stoma raises the risk of a urinary infection travelling upwards towards the kidneys. That is what the valve is for, and it is the reason this bag matters more than most people realise: it is a piece of infection control rather than a convenience.

Why a Night Drainage Bag Goes With It

You will need a night drainage bag to connect to this pouch when you sleep, and that is the one thing to sort out before anything else. A small pouch left to fill overnight with no outlet either fills completely and leaks, or sits full against you for hours.

Connecting a larger bag to the outlet at night means urine drains away continuously, nothing sits against the stoma, and you sleep through instead of getting up to empty. Please ask our pharmacist about the night bag and the connector with your first order, and we will make sure the tubing fits this outlet. Keep the night bag below the level of the stoma, keep the tubing free of kinks, and keep the bag off the floor.

Emptying the Urostomy Bag Through the Day

Empty it at about one third full rather than waiting for it to feel heavy. Weight pulls a base plate off the skin, and urine arrives steadily enough that a urostomy pouch wants emptying more often than a bowel bag does.

The outlet is a soft tap that folds and tucks away against the pouch when it is closed, which keeps it from rubbing on your thigh. Open it, drain into the toilet, wipe the outlet with a tissue in one movement away from your body, close it properly and tuck it back. Wash your hands before and after. Each pouch is used once and goes in the bin rather than the toilet.

Changing the Pouch Without Disturbing the Skin

This is the point of a two-piece. The base plate stays on the skin for its full wear time while the pouch can be taken off and replaced as often as you like, so the adhesive is pulled off the skin far less often than with a one-piece.

To fit a pouch, open the lock ring, press the pouch onto the base plate starting at the bottom, and run your fingers right around the coupling. A slight click tells you it has seated. You can then rotate it to whichever position sits most comfortably, which only a two-piece allows, before closing the lock ring until it clicks. To take it off, open the lock ring with the small tab and lift the pouch away, leaving the plate in place. Make a habit of checking the lock ring once after dressing, because a ring that looks closed and is not is the main way a two-piece lets go.

The Coupling Has to Match

This pouch has a 60 mm coupling, and 60 mm is the size of that ring rather than the size of your stoma. It fits a 60 mm base plate of the same system, and only that.

A 60 mm pouch and a 50 mm plate stay apart, and so do a 60 mm pouch and a 60 mm plate from a different manufacturer, because the ring profiles differ between makers even at the same stated diameter. Please buy the pouch and the plate as a pair and tell our pharmacist what you are already using, since this is the commonest way people end up with a box of stock that fits nothing. Our own matching plate is linked below.

What Is Normal in the Bag, and What Is Not

Cloudy strands or shreds of mucus in the urine are ordinary with a urostomy, because the piece of bowel used to make the stoma carries on producing mucus. People are often alarmed by it and it is nothing in itself.

What matters is the rest of the picture. Urine that becomes persistently cloudy or strong smelling, blood in the urine, pain in the side or lower back, fever or shivering, or new confusion in an older person all point to a urinary infection, and that needs our doctor the same day rather than a wait. Drink well through the day, because dilute urine is both less irritating to the skin and less hospitable to infection, and that matters more in Nairobi heat than most people are told. Please also come in for any period where the bag stops filling, since urine being made and not arriving has to be going somewhere.

The Stoma and the Skin Around It

A healthy urinary stoma is pink or red and moist, and a little surface bleeding when you clean it is ordinary. The skin around it should look like the rest of your abdomen.

A stoma that turns dark red, purple, grey, black or dry needs seeing the same day, and so does one that pulls in below the skin or pushes out much further than usual. Redness in a ring right at the stoma edge usually means the opening in the base plate was cut too wide and urine is sitting on skin, which on a urostomy happens faster than with a bowel stoma because the output is constant. Crystals or a gritty white deposit on the stoma or the skin is worth bringing to us too, since it usually means the urine is too alkaline and there are simple things to do about it. Itching, stinging or burning under the plate means it comes off now rather than on its scheduled day.

What We Can Honestly Tell You

A urostomy is a lifelong arrangement, so this is a standing order rather than a purchase. Tell our pharmacist how many pouches and plates you use in a month and we will deliver monthly in plain outer packaging with a delivery note that names nothing, and keep a few days’ spare in the house.

You will need the matching 60 mm two-piece base plate for this pouch, and a night drainage bag, which our pharmacist will source for you. If you would rather have one piece with nothing to couple, ask about our one-piece drainable bags, though please note those are made for bowel output and our doctor should confirm what suits a urinary stoma.

Is This Urostomy Bag Right for You?

Please talk to our pharmacist or our doctor before you buy if any of these apply.

  • You have not sorted out a night drainage bag. Please ask us first. It is the part that protects the stoma and your sleep.
  • You are already using another brand or another coupling size. Tell us what it is. A 60 mm pouch fits only a 60 mm plate of the same system.
  • Persistently cloudy or strong-smelling urine, blood, pain in the side or lower back, fever, shivering or new confusion. Our doctor the same day.
  • The bag has stopped filling. The same day, please.
  • A stoma that is dark red, purple, grey, black or dry, or that retracts or protrudes much further than usual. The same day.
  • A red ring at the stoma edge, crystals or a gritty deposit, or itching and burning under the plate. Bring it in and we will look at the cut opening and the skin together.

Your Questions About This Urostomy Bag, Answered

What does the non-return valve do?

It keeps urine that has already drained from running back towards the stoma when you change position. It is infection control rather than a convenience.

Do I need a night drainage bag as well?

Yes, and it is the first thing to sort out. A larger bag connected overnight drains continuously, so nothing sits against the stoma and you sleep through.

Where should the night bag sit?

Below the level of the stoma, with the tubing free of kinks and the bag off the floor. Gravity is what makes it drain.

When should I empty the pouch during the day?

At about one third full. Weight pulls the base plate off the skin, and urine arrives steadily, so this wants emptying more often than a bowel bag.

What does 60 mm mean?

The size of the coupling ring, not the size of your stoma. It fits a 60 mm base plate of the same system and nothing else.

Can I use a 60 mm plate from another brand?

Please buy them as a pair instead. Ring profiles differ between manufacturers even at the same stated diameter, so tell us what you already use and we will match it.

How do I fit the pouch to the plate?

Open the lock ring, press the pouch on from the bottom, run your fingers right around the coupling until it clicks, rotate it to a comfortable position, then close the lock ring until it clicks.

Why choose a two-piece over a one-piece?

The plate stays on the skin while the pouch is changed as often as you like, so the adhesive is pulled off far less often. You can also rotate the pouch.

My bag came loose. What went wrong?

Usually a lock ring that looked closed and was not. Check it once after dressing and run a finger around the coupling.

There are white strands in my urine. Is that a problem?

Mucus strands are ordinary with a urostomy, because the piece of bowel used to make the stoma keeps producing mucus. It alarms people and is nothing in itself.

How do I know if I have a urinary infection?

Persistently cloudy or strong-smelling urine, blood, pain in the side or lower back, fever or shivering, or new confusion in an older person. Our doctor the same day.

What are the white crystals on my stoma?

Usually a sign the urine is too alkaline. Bring it to us, because there are simple things to do about it.

How much should I drink?

Steadily through the day. Dilute urine is less irritating to the skin and less hospitable to infection, and that matters more in Nairobi heat than people are told.
