What This Reflux Tea Is For
Nutra Reflux Tea is the herbal reflux tea people reach for when burning behind the breastbone and a sour taste follow a meal or arrive as they lie down. One box holds 20 bags, each brewing up to three cups, at two to three cups a day between meals. It is a nine-herb blend led by peppermint, liquorice and chamomile.
Peppermint Is the First Thing to Know About This Reflux Tea
Peppermint is the largest ingredient at 20%, and peppermint relaxes the valve at the top of the stomach. For wind and cramping that is useful. For reflux it can work against you, because a looser valve lets acid come up more easily, and that is why peppermint is one of the things people with reflux are usually told to watch.
So this blend may suit you and it may not, and the only honest thing to do is say so. If your trouble is bloating, fullness and wind after meals, the peppermint is on your side. If your trouble is specifically burning and acid coming up at night, come and talk to our pharmacist first, because we may well point you at something else on the shelf and tell you to keep your money.
We would rather lose a sale than sell you a tea that makes your evenings worse.
Liquorice, Blood Pressure and Your Medicines
Liquorice is 15% of this blend and it is the ingredient that matters most if you take anything regularly. Liquorice can raise blood pressure, lower potassium and cause fluid retention, and it does all three more readily in people already on medication for their heart, their blood pressure or their water balance.
At two to three cups a day, every day, that is a real amount of liquorice. So if you take anything for blood pressure, a water tablet, a heart medicine or a steroid, please bring the packets to the counter and let our pharmacist look before you buy. If you are pregnant, see our doctor. And whoever you are, this is a tea for a stretch rather than for ever — a few weeks, then a break, is the sensible pattern.
What Is in the Cup
Peppermint 20%, liquorice 15%, chamomile 10%, shatavari root 10% and fenugreek 10%, with ginger, fennel, slippery elm and green tea making up the rest.
Slippery elm is the one with the clearest reason to be in a reflux blend: it is a mucilage, which means it thickens in water and coats as it goes down. Fennel and ginger are the familiar digestive herbs. Shatavari and fenugreek are less expected, and fenugreek can lower blood sugar, which is another reason to mention your medicines. The green tea means it is low in caffeine rather than caffeine-free, at under 15 mg a cup, which is a fraction of a coffee but not nothing if you are drinking three cups in the evening.
If a Simpler Cup Would Suit You Better
Plenty of people want a settling cup after dinner and none of the medicine questions that come with liquorice. Our chamomile and valerian tea carries no liquorice at all, and for anyone on blood pressure tablets that is simply the better buy.
And if what you are describing is heaviness and fullness after food rather than acid, a tea may not be the tool at all. Our digestive enzyme capsules work on the meal itself, taken at the start of it. Tell our pharmacist which of the two your evenings sound like and we will point you at one of them.
When Heartburn Needs Our Doctor Rather Than a Tea
Burning after a big meal now and then is ordinary. Burning most days, for weeks, is worth examining, and a tea can quiet it while the cause carries on.
Please come and see us if your symptoms have gone on more than a few weeks, if they are new and you are over 45, if swallowing has become difficult or feels like food sticking, if you are losing weight without meaning to, if you are vomiting, if there is blood or your stool has turned black, or if the pain goes through to your back. Our doctor can test for the stomach bacterium behind a great many ulcers, which is treatable, and rule out the rest.
Is This Reflux Tea Right for You?
It suits an adult whose trouble is post-meal fullness and discomfort, who has had the serious causes ruled out, and who likes the idea of something warm between meals rather than another tablet. The box is honestly made, with real percentages and a liquorice warning already on it, which is more than most herbal teas manage.
Please speak to us first if any of these describes you:
- Your main symptom is acid burning or coming up at night. The peppermint at 20% may work against you.
- You take anything for blood pressure, your heart, fluid retention, or a steroid. The liquorice is the reason.
- You live with diabetes or take anything for blood sugar. The fenugreek can lower it further.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding. Please see our doctor before any herbal tea.
- Your symptoms have lasted weeks, or there is weight loss, difficulty swallowing, vomiting or blood. Please come in rather than buy.
- You are buying it for a child. Please see our doctor.
And if you are not sure which of those describes you, ask our pharmacist before you spend anything.

Nutra Reflux Tea: Your Questions Answered
What is in Nutra Reflux Tea?
Peppermint 20%, liquorice 15%, chamomile 10%, shatavari root 10% and fenugreek 10%, plus ginger, fennel, slippery elm and green tea. No authorised health claim exists for any of these herbs, so we will not promise you a result.
Will it help my acid reflux?
Ask our pharmacist first, because the answer is honestly mixed. Peppermint is the largest ingredient and it relaxes the valve at the top of the stomach, which can let acid up more easily. If your problem is fullness and wind, it suits you; if it is burning at night, we may point you elsewhere.
Why is there peppermint in a reflux tea?
Peppermint is a long-standing digestive herb and it helps wind and cramping. It is also one of the things people with acid reflux are usually told to watch, for the reason above. Both of those are true at once, which is why this is a counter conversation rather than a label question.
I take blood pressure tablets. Can I drink it?
Bring them to the counter first. Liquorice at 15% can raise blood pressure, lower potassium and cause fluid retention, and it does so more readily alongside blood pressure medicines, water tablets and steroids. Two minutes with the packets settles it.
I have diabetes. Is it suitable?
Ask our pharmacist. Fenugreek is 10% of the blend and can lower blood sugar, which matters if you already take something that does the same.
Is it caffeine-free?
No, it is low in caffeine. The green tea in it brings it to under 15 mg a cup, which is a fraction of a coffee, but worth knowing if you are drinking three cups in the evening.
How do I brew it?
200 ml of freshly boiled water over one bag, four to five minutes, then squeeze the bag gently. Two to three cups a day, between meals rather than with them.
How long should I drink it for?
A few weeks and then a break, rather than every day indefinitely. That is the liquorice again: it is the one ingredient here that adds up over time.
What does slippery elm do?
It is a mucilage, which means it thickens in water and coats as it goes down. Of everything in this blend it is the ingredient with the clearest reason to be in a reflux tea.
When should I see a doctor instead?
If your symptoms have lasted more than a few weeks, if they are new and you are over 45, if swallowing is difficult or food feels like it sticks, if you are losing weight, vomiting, or there is blood or black stool, or if pain goes through to your back. Our doctor can test for the stomach bacterium behind many ulcers, which has a proper treatment.
Can I drink it in pregnancy?
Please see our doctor first. Heartburn in pregnancy is very common and there are things we can suggest that suit it better than a blend containing liquorice and shatavari.
How many cups does a box make?
Each bag brews up to three times, so 20 bags runs to about 60 cups. Tell us how many weeks you want covered and we will work out the order.
Is there a simpler tea without liquorice?
Yes, and for a lot of people it is the better buy. Ask our pharmacist and we will show you what we have that is a settling cup with none of the medicine questions attached.
