What This Pregnancy Tea Is For
Nutra Preg Tea is a caffeine-free pregnancy tea built around ginger and chamomile, and the reason most women reach for it is the nausea and queasiness of the first months. One box holds 20 bags, each of which brews up to three cups, and the suggested amount is two to three cups a day.
Ginger is the main ingredient at 25%, and it is the one in this blend with the most behind it: ginger has been studied for nausea and sickness in early pregnancy more than any other herb. No authorised health claim exists for ginger, chamomile or any botanical, so we hold back from promising you a result. What we will do is tell you what is in the cup and what to check with our doctor.
Please Talk to Our Doctor Before You Start
We would rather say this at the top than bury it, because a pregnancy tea deserves more care than any other tea on a shelf.
This blend contains nine botanicals, and two of them are worth a conversation: shatavari root and nettle. Both have long traditional use, neither is established as safe in pregnancy, and both appear in this blend without an amount printed. Ginger, chamomile, peppermint, fennel and rooibos are the familiar ones; shatavari and nettle are not, and in the first trimester that difference matters.
So please bring the box to our doctor, or come and ask, before your first cup. It takes a few minutes. Our doctor will look at your stage of pregnancy, anything else you are taking, and your own history, and tell you whether to drink it, how much, or whether plain ginger would serve you better. That is a conversation a shelf has no way of having with you, and it is the reason to buy this from a pharmacy.
If You Have Heartburn, Read This Part
Peppermint is the second ingredient at 20%, and peppermint relaxes the valve at the top of the stomach. That is useful for wind and cramping and unhelpful for reflux, because a looser valve lets acid come up more easily.
Heartburn affects a great many women in the second half of pregnancy, as there is simply less room for the stomach. If that is you, a tea that is a fifth peppermint may make the evenings worse rather than better, and our pharmacist can suggest something that suits that stage instead. If nausea is your problem rather than heartburn, this is a reasonable choice and the peppermint is not working against you.
What Is in This Pregnancy Tea
Ginger 25%, peppermint 20%, oat straw 15% and chamomile 10%, with shatavari root, nettle, cranberry and rooibos making up the rest without stated amounts. No caffeine, no added flavourings and no oils.
The oat straw carries an asterisk on the box with nothing explaining it, and the likeliest reason is oats and gluten, so please ask us to check the carton with you if you avoid gluten. Cranberry is the one ingredient here with a sensible everyday reason to be in a pregnancy blend, and rooibos is naturally caffeine-free, which is why the blend is.
How to Brew It
Pour 200 ml of freshly boiled water over one bag, leave it four to five minutes, squeeze the bag gently and drink. Two to three cups a day is the suggested amount and more than that adds nothing.
Each bag takes up to three brews, so a box of 20 runs to around 60 cups, which is why these work out cheaper per cup than they look. Ginger is often easier first thing in the morning, before food, if morning sickness is what you are drinking it for.
Warm rather than scalding is worth knowing too. Sipped slowly over ten minutes it tends to settle a queasy stomach better than a hot cup drunk quickly, and a cup beside the bed for first thing is a trick many women find more useful than anything written on a box.
If Plain Ginger Would Suit You Better
For some women in early pregnancy the simpler answer is ginger on its own, because one ingredient is easy to check and nine are not. Fresh root, grated into hot water, is the cheapest version of this and our pharmacist will tell you how much to use.
If what you actually want is something calming in the evening rather than something for sickness, that is a different blend again, and our chamomile and valerian tea is built for it — though valerian is another one to run past our doctor while you are pregnant. And if your trouble is heaviness after meals rather than queasiness, our digestive enzyme capsules are a different tool altogether, again with our doctor’s say-so first.
Is This Pregnancy Tea Right for You?
It suits a woman in early pregnancy whose main trouble is queasiness, who wants something warm and caffeine-free, and who has checked the blend with our doctor first. Ginger is a sensible thing to reach for and the box is honestly made, with real percentages and plastic-free bags.
Please come and see our doctor before your first cup if any of these describes you:
- You are pregnant at all. We mean this one plainly: see our doctor before you start, because of the shatavari and the nettle.
- You have heartburn or reflux. The peppermint at 20% may work against you and we will suggest something else.
- You take any medicine, including anything for blood pressure, thyroid or blood sugar.
- You are in your third trimester. The box is written for the first and second, and says nothing about the third.
- You avoid gluten. The oat straw needs checking against the carton.
- You are breastfeeding. Bring the box in and let us read it with you rather than taking an answer off a label.
And if sickness is making your days hard, please come in rather than working through a box on your own. There are things our doctor can offer that a tea cannot, and bad sickness in pregnancy is worth treating properly.

Nutra Preg Tea: Your Questions Answered
What is in Nutra Preg Tea?
Ginger 25%, peppermint 20%, oat straw 15%, chamomile 10%, and then shatavari root, nettle, cranberry and rooibos without stated amounts. It is caffeine-free, with no added flavourings or oils.
Is it safe in pregnancy?
Please ask our doctor before your first cup, and we will not give you a yes or a no off a label. Ginger and chamomile are familiar; shatavari root and nettle are not established as safe in pregnancy and are in this blend without amounts. Bring the box in and our doctor will go through it with you properly.
Will it help morning sickness?
Ginger is the herb most studied for nausea in early pregnancy, which is why it is 25% of this blend. We are not permitted to promise you a result, and if sickness is making your days hard our doctor has things to offer that a tea does not.
Can I drink it if I have heartburn?
Ask our pharmacist first. Peppermint is 20% of the blend and it relaxes the valve at the top of the stomach, which can let acid come up more easily. For heartburn in later pregnancy we would suggest something else.
How many cups a day?
Two to three. More adds nothing. Each bag takes up to three brews, so a box of 20 runs to about 60 cups.
How do I brew it?
200 ml of freshly boiled water over one bag, four to five minutes, then squeeze the bag gently. If morning sickness is the reason, many women find it easiest first thing before food.
Is it caffeine-free?
Yes. The rooibos in it is naturally caffeine-free and there is no tea leaf in the blend.
Can I drink it while breastfeeding?
Bring the box to our doctor first. Several of these herbs have traditional uses in breastfeeding and that is not the same as being established as safe, so it is worth a short conversation rather than an answer off a label.
Is it suitable in the third trimester?
The box is written for the first and second trimesters and says nothing about the third. Please ask our doctor, who will tell you whether to carry on.
Does it contain gluten?
The oat straw carries an asterisk on the box that nothing explains, and oats are the likely reason. If you avoid gluten, ask us to read the carton with you before you buy.
Are the tea bags plastic-free?
Yes, and they are biodegradable and unbleached. Each one can be brewed up to three times, which is where the value in a box of 20 comes from.
How is it different from plain ginger tea?
Plain ginger is one ingredient you can check easily; this is nine. If ginger is what you are after, our pharmacist can point you at it, and for some women in early pregnancy that is the simpler answer.
Can I drink it if I am not pregnant?
Ask our pharmacist. The blend contains shatavari and nettle and is built around a pregnancy audience, so if you simply want something for queasiness or for the evening, we will suggest a blend meant for that.
