Conveen Leg Urine Bag 1500ml

The Conveen Leg Urine Bag 1500ml is a urine leg bag that helps a man get through a full day away from a toilet, and a full night without getting up, by collecting urine from a sheath or catheter into a bag worn under his trousers. It holds 1,500 ml and does both jobs: slits take leg straps for the day, hanger holes let it hang beside the bed at night. It has an anti-reflux valve, a clamp outlet and is latex-free. Our doctor’s instruction is up to seven days a bag with proper cleaning, so please ask our pharmacist to show you the method.

Conveen Leg Urine Bag 1500ml: One Urine Leg Bag for Day and Night

The Conveen Leg Urine Bag 1500ml is a urine leg bag that helps a man get through a full day away from a toilet, and a full night without getting up, by collecting urine from a sheath or catheter into a bag worn under his trousers. It holds 1,500 ml, which is a good deal more than an ordinary leg bag, and it is built to do both jobs: slits on the back take leg straps for daytime wear, and hanger holes at the top let it hang beside the bed at night.

That is what makes this bag worth buying over a smaller one. Most people in this situation end up with two bags, a small one for the day and a larger one for the night, with a connector between them. At 1,500 ml this one carries most men through either, so it is a simpler and cheaper arrangement to live with. Please tell our pharmacist how you intend to use it before you order.

How Long One Bag Lasts

Our doctor’s instruction for this bag is that it may be cleaned and re-used for up to seven days, and then replaced. These are well-made bags, and at that build quality a week of careful use is reasonable where it is cleaned properly between uses and looked over each time.

Please ask our pharmacist to show you the cleaning method before you rely on the seven days, because the cleaning is what makes the week safe rather than the bag itself. Replace a bag sooner where the plastic clouds heavily, a smell stays after cleaning, the tap or valve starts to seal poorly, or the person using it shows any sign of a urinary infection.

So the arithmetic is kinder than people expect: a bag a week is four or five a month, and the straps last months. Tell our pharmacist how you use it and we will set up a standing delivery in plain outer packaging, with a delivery note that names nothing.

What Is in the Bag’s Design

The parts that matter on a urine bag are the valve at the top and the tap at the bottom, and both are worth understanding before you use one.

The anti-reflux valve at the inlet keeps urine that has already drained from running back up towards the body when you stand, sit or lie down. That is the most useful feature on the bag, because backflow carries anything in the collected urine back the way it came. The outlet is a clamp, which shows at a glance whether it is open or closed, and a clamp left open is how most beginners wet a trouser leg in the first week. The inlet tube runs about 86 cm and can be cut shorter to suit your height, keeping as much of the straight section as you can. There is also a sample port, which our doctor will use rather than you, and the bag and tubing are latex-free.

Wearing and Emptying the Urine Leg Bag

Connect it with the outlet tap closed, then fit it to the leg with a pair of straps through the slits, the longer strap at the top. Worn on the calf, the top strap goes in a figure of eight behind and over the knee, which stops the bag sliding down as you walk.

Empty it when it is a little over half full rather than waiting until it is heavy, because a bag allowed to fill completely drains slowly, pulls on the sheath or catheter, and is the usual reason one comes away. Drain into the toilet, close the clamp fully, and wash your hands before and after. Keep the bag below the level of the bladder at all times, including when sitting, because gravity is what makes the system work. At night hang it from its hanger holes on a stand or a bed frame, keeping the tubing free of kinks and the bag off the floor.

Two Things to Know Before You Use One

The bag contains phthalates, so it is for adult use: children should use a different product, and anyone pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to our pharmacist or our doctor first.

The second is that a bag on its own does nothing. It connects to a urisheath or an indwelling catheter, and which of those you need, and what size, is a decision for our doctor rather than a shelf. Please come and see us so the whole arrangement is set up once and properly, because almost every leak in this system comes from a part chosen separately from the rest.

Looking After the Skin and the Leg

Straps holding a filling bag against the leg all day can mark the skin, and a 1,500 ml bag gets heavy. Check the leg once a day where the straps sit.

Two fingers should slide comfortably under a strap. Move the straps a little up or down each day rather than putting them back in the same place, and take them off at night if the bag is hanging beside the bed instead. Numbness, tingling, a colour change in the foot, swelling in the lower leg, or a line pressed into the skin that stays after the strap comes off all mean the strap is too tight: loosen it, and come and see us if that redness or numbness persists. Where the skin under the sheath or around the catheter is red, sore or weeping, please have that looked at rather than carrying on, because adhesive and a catheter both make broken skin considerably worse.

When to Come and See Us the Same Day

Anyone draining urine into a bag is at raised risk of a urinary infection, and the signs are worth knowing by heart. Cloudy or strongly smelling urine, blood, pain or burning, fever, shivering, new confusion in an older person, or pain in the side or lower back all need seeing the same day.

So does any period where the bag stops filling, because urine being made and not arriving has to be going somewhere. And for a man with a spinal cord injury at or above the mid-chest, a blocked or kinked system can set off a sudden dangerous rise in blood pressure: a pounding headache, flushing and sweating above the level of the injury, goose bumps, blurred vision, a slow pulse. Sit upright, check the tubing, empty the bag, loosen anything tight and get urgent help, because that is an emergency rather than something to watch.

What We Can Honestly Tell You

At 1,500 ml this is the most practical single bag we can sell somebody who wants one product for day and night, and at up to seven days a bag it is also the cheapest way to run the system over a year. Our pharmacist will set the monthly quantity with you and arrange delivery in plain packaging.

A bag needs something to connect to, so if you are starting from the beginning, ask about Conveen urisheaths at the same time. And you will need a pair of Conveen leg bag straps to wear it on the leg, which are reusable and last months rather than days.

Is This Urine Leg Bag Right for You?

Please talk to our pharmacist or our doctor before you buy if any of these apply.

  • You have no urisheath or catheter yet. A bag on its own does nothing. Let our doctor set the arrangement up once.
  • You have cleaned and re-used a bag before without being shown how. Please let our pharmacist go through the method with you, because the cleaning is what makes the seven days safe.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding, or a bag for a child. The bag contains phthalates. Please speak to us first.
  • Numbness, a colour change in the foot, swelling, or a strap line that stays. Too tight. Loosen it, and see us if it persists.
  • Cloudy or smelly urine, blood, pain, fever, shivering, new confusion, or side or back pain. The same day, please.
  • The bag has stopped filling, or the plastic has clouded, the tap seals poorly or a smell stays after cleaning. Stop filling needs seeing the same day. The rest means it is time for a fresh bag.

Conveen Leg Urine Bag 1500ml: Your Questions Answered

How much does this urine leg bag hold?

1,500 ml, which is considerably more than an ordinary leg bag and is why one bag can cover both the day and the night.

Can it be used at night as well as during the day?

Yes. Slits on the back take leg straps for daytime wear and hanger holes at the top let it hang beside the bed at night.

Can I clean it and use it again?

Yes. Our doctor’s instruction for this bag is that it may be cleaned and re-used for up to seven days, then replaced. Please ask our pharmacist to show you the cleaning method first.

At a bag a week, four or five. Tell our pharmacist how you use it and we will set up a standing delivery at the right quantity.

What does the anti-reflux valve do?

It keeps urine that has already drained from running back up towards the body when you move position. It is the most useful feature on the bag.

When should I empty it?

When it is a little over half full, rather than waiting until it is heavy. A full bag drains slowly and pulls on the sheath or catheter.

When should I replace a bag before the seven days are up?
