Conveen Latex Urindom Self-Sealing 35mm: a Condom Catheter and the Daily Routine That Makes It Work
A condom catheter helps a man with urinary incontinence stay dry all day and all night without a tube passing into the bladder, and this is the 35mm self-sealing version with the adhesive already on the sleeve. The Conveen Latex Urindom Self-Sealing 35mm rolls on in one movement and drains into a leg bag by day and a night bag beside the bed, and once the routine is established most men stop thinking about it.
The routine is what matters most, because the sheath itself is the easy part. Men who get on well with these are the ones who have a fixed daily sequence, the right bags, and a clear idea of what to do when something has stopped draining. Our pharmacist will set all three up with you, and it takes about fifteen minutes at the counter.
The Daily Routine, Start to Finish
Pick a time and keep to it, usually in the morning after washing. The whole change takes a couple of minutes once it is habit.
- Take the old sheath off first. Disconnect the bag, hold the base, and roll it forward off the penis. Put it in the bin; it is single use and goes nowhere near a basin.
- Wash with soap and water and dry thoroughly. A damp shaft is the single commonest reason a sheath comes away by lunchtime.
- Let the skin have a few minutes in the air before the new one goes on. That short break matters over months of daily wear.
- Trim, do not shave, and only when needed. Use blunt scissors at the base, because regrowth after shaving irritates the skin under the adhesive.
- Fit the new one with the narrow outlet facing away from the body, leaving a gap of 1 to 2 cm between the tip and the outlet tube, unroll fully, and squeeze gently along the shaft to seal.
- Connect the bag and check the tubing runs clear, with no kink and nothing trapped under a leg.
Nothing else goes on the skin. No creams, no powders, no oils and no antiseptic, because each of them stops the adhesive holding. If the skin needs a barrier product, ask our pharmacist and we will tell you when and where to use it without costing you the seal.
One a Day, No Exceptions
Each sheath is worn for no longer than 24 hours and then replaced with a fresh one. They are single use. Washing one out and putting it back on risks carrying infection to a part of the body that is already vulnerable, and the adhesive loses its grip after one use in any case, so a washed sheath leaks and the man concludes the product is no good.
One a day means a pack of thirty is one month exactly. Tell us how many months you want covered and we will set up a standing monthly delivery, in plain packaging, so running out never happens. For a product used every single day, supply reliability matters more than the price per sheath.
Looking After the Skin Underneath
Skin that is covered for 24 hours a day needs looking at daily, at the change, and it takes ten seconds once you know what you are looking for. Check the whole shaft and the area where the adhesive sits.
Redness that fades within an hour of the sheath coming off is usually nothing. Redness that stays, a patch that is itchy, raised, blistered, weeping or broken, or skin that has started to peel, all want our attention that week rather than next month. Stop using the sheath until we have seen it, because applying adhesive to broken skin makes the problem considerably worse. In the meantime ask our pharmacist about our TENA ProSkin Slip Plus briefs, which will keep the man dry while the skin recovers.
Why This Is Usually Safer Than an Indwelling Catheter
Nothing on this product enters the body. Research comparing external sheaths with indwelling catheters has reported less urinary infection among men using sheaths, which is what you would expect when nothing is passing through the urethra and there is no tube sitting in the bladder for weeks.
So if somebody at home is managing with an indwelling catheter, and has the manual dexterity or the help needed for a sheath, that is a conversation worth having with our doctor. It suits some men and not others: a retracted penis, significant swelling, broken skin or urinary retention can all rule a sheath out, and retention in particular needs the bladder drained rather than collected from. But the question gets asked far less often than it should be, and the answer is sometimes yes.
A Warning for Men With a Spinal Cord Injury
If you have a spinal cord injury at or above the mid-chest, a blocked or kinked drainage system can set off a sudden, dangerous rise in blood pressure. The signs are a pounding headache, flushing and sweating above the level of the injury, goose bumps, blurred vision or a slow pulse.
If that happens, sit upright, check the tubing for kinks, empty the bag, loosen anything tight around the abdomen or legs, and get medical help urgently. It is an emergency rather than something to monitor. Anyone in this group should also have a clear plan agreed with their own doctor, and our doctor is here to set one up with you.
Latex, and Who Should Avoid It
This sheath is natural rubber latex, and it may cause an allergic reaction in anybody sensitised to latex. Tell our pharmacist before you order if there has ever been a reaction to latex gloves, condoms or balloons, or if a latex allergy has been mentioned in hospital. People with spina bifida are advised to avoid latex products as a matter of routine.
Years of daily latex wear can also bring on a sensitivity that was never there before, so if skin that was fine for a long time has started reacting, tell us rather than putting up with it. There is a silicone version made without natural rubber latex in the same diameters; ask us what we can source and how long it takes. If the measurement comes out smaller, we stock the self-sealing 30mm, and if the fit has been awkward the two-piece 35mm lets you position the adhesive yourself.
Is This Condom Catheter Right for You?
Please talk to our pharmacist or our doctor before you buy if any of these apply.
- Any history of latex reaction, or spina bifida. Tell us first and ask about the silicone version.
- You have not been measured. Come in. Where the measurement falls between sizes we take the smaller one, and 30mm suits more men than are sold it.
- Swelling, colour change, pain or numbness. Take it off and contact us the same day.
- Broken, blistered, weeping or peeling skin. Stop using the sheath and come in this week. Ask about absorbent briefs meanwhile.
- A spinal cord injury at or above the mid-chest. Please read the warning above and agree a plan with our doctor.
- Fever, shivering, back or side pain, or cloudy, bloody or strong-smelling urine. Please see our doctor the same day.

Conveen Latex Urindom Self-Sealing 35mm: Your Questions Answered
What is a condom catheter?
A soft sleeve that rolls over the penis like a condom and drains into a bag through a narrow outlet at the tip. Nothing passes into the bladder.
How long is one worn?
No longer than 24 hours, then a fresh one. They are single use and must never be washed and used again.
How many will I need a month?
One a day, so a pack of thirty is one month exactly. Tell us how many months to cover and we will set up a standing monthly delivery in plain packaging.
What does the daily change involve?
Roll the old one off and bin it, wash and dry thoroughly, let the skin air a few minutes, fit the new one leaving a 1 to 2 cm gap at the tip, unroll fully, squeeze to seal, connect the bag and check the tubing.
Why does mine come away by lunchtime?
Almost always because the skin was not completely dry, or a cream or powder was used. Nothing goes on the skin before a sheath.
Can I use a barrier cream on the skin?
Not before fitting, because it stops the adhesive holding. Ask our pharmacist and we will tell you when and where to use one without costing you the seal.
What should I check on the skin each day?
The whole shaft and where the adhesive sits. Redness that fades within an hour is usually nothing; redness that stays, or itching, blistering, weeping or peeling, needs us to see it that week.
Is this safer than an indwelling catheter?
Nothing enters the body, and research comparing external sheaths with indwelling catheters has reported less urinary infection among sheath users. Whether it suits a particular man is a question for our doctor.
I have a spinal cord injury. Is there anything special to know?
Yes. If the injury is at or above the mid-chest, a blocked or kinked system can cause a sudden dangerous rise in blood pressure, with a pounding headache, sweating and flushing. Sit upright, unkink the tubing, empty the bag and get urgent help.
Where should the bag hang?
Always below the level of the bladder, and empty it at about two-thirds full so its weight does not pull the sheath off.
It contains latex. Who should avoid it?
Anybody who has reacted to latex gloves, condoms or balloons, and anybody with spina bifida. Ask us about the silicone version.
Should I order 35mm or 30mm?
Measure around the middle of the shaft or at its widest point, and where the measurement falls between sizes take the smaller. Come in and we will measure with you.
When should I see the doctor rather than the pharmacist?
Fever, shivering, pain in the back or side, or urine that has turned cloudy, bloody or strong-smelling. Those suggest an infection and want seeing the same day.
