TENA Lady Slim Ultra Mini: Panty Liners for Bladder Leaks, 28 to a Pack

Panty liners for bladder leaks help a woman stop worrying about the small, occasional escape when she coughs, laughs or stands up too quickly. TENA Lady Slim Ultra Mini holds 92 ml on the standard laboratory test, which sounds modest until you realise that is many times what an ordinary panty liner manages, and at 3 mm thick and 19 cm long it disappears inside underwear.

Twenty-eight to a pack, which is the point of this one: at one a day it is a month, so it becomes something you simply keep in the drawer rather than a purchase you think about. Please tell our pharmacist how many you are getting through in a day, because that single answer decides whether a liner is right or whether you need a pad.

These Panty Liners for Bladder Leaks Are Liners Rather Than Pads

This is a liner. It is designed for drops and dribbles rather than a proper leak, and it is the lightest protection in the range above the very smallest. If you are reaching for a second or third one in a day, or finding it saturated rather than damp, you have outgrown a liner and you are better off, and usually cheaper off, in a pad.

The step up is where most women should be and are not. These are the published capacities across the range, all measured the same way so they compare directly: Mini Magic 60 ml, Ultra Mini 92 ml, Mini 170 ml, Mini Plus 240 ml, Normal 325 ml, Extra 475 ml, Extra Plus around 540 ml and Maxi 798 ml. One liner a day is the right use of this product. Three a day means buy TENA Lady Normal instead and change twice.

Why Not an Ordinary Panty Liner

Most women try an ordinary liner first and give up on the idea, and the reason is worth understanding. A cosmetic panty liner is built for light discharge: the surface is open and the core holds very little, so urine arrives faster than it is taken in and runs out at the edge.

This one works the other way round. The surface pulls liquid down quickly, a superabsorbent core turns it to gel so it stays put, and because the urine is locked away from the surface the ammonia smell never develops. That is also why the skin stays dry, which an ordinary liner stops doing the moment it is wet. If you have been using cosmetic liners and getting damp and sore, that is the explanation.

How to Wear It

Wide adhesive strips on the back stick it inside ordinary underwear, so no special pants are needed. Press it along its whole length and set the wider part where you need it, usually towards the front. The shape is asymmetric, so it is meant to sit a particular way round; if it feels odd, turn it the other way.

Close-fitting cotton underwear holds a liner far better than loose or silky underwear, and that is the usual reason one shifts and then lets you down at the edge. Each liner comes individually wrapped, which is the detail that makes a packet of these easy to carry in a handbag without announcing itself.

Changing It, and Keeping the Skin Comfortable

Change it when it is damp rather than waiting for it to feel wet, and at least once a day even if it seems dry, because urine need not be visible to irritate skin. Three to five changes across a day is a normal range if there is more leaking than you expected.

Wash gently with warm water or a mild cleanser, pat dry rather than rubbing, and use a thin layer of barrier cream if there is any redness. Ask our pharmacist for the cream with your order. If soreness continues, or there is itching, burning or discharge, please come and see us, because thrush and urine rash look very alike and are treated quite differently.

The Conversation Worth Having While the Leaks Are Still Small

This is the right moment to say it, because a woman buying her first packet of liners is the one with the most to gain. Bladder leakage is rarely just age, and a large share of it improves with treatment rather than being managed quietly with liners for the next thirty years.

Leaking when you cough, laugh, sneeze, lift or exercise is usually stress incontinence, and supervised pelvic floor training helps a great many women, often substantially and often early. A sudden desperate urge with little warning is a different pattern with its own treatments. Our doctor can tell them apart in one appointment. Please come and see us if the leaking is new, has got worse, began after childbirth or surgery, or comes with pain, burning, blood or a change in how often you pass urine. Treated early, this is frequently a solved problem rather than a managed one.

What We Can Honestly Tell You

For the occasional drop, this is the discreetest and most economical thing we sell, and twenty-eight to a pack at one a day makes it a month’s supply you need not think about. The range has recently been renamed, so you may see the same liner as TENA Discreet Ultra Mini; it is the same product.

If you are going through more than one a day, move to a pad: TENA Lady Extra at 475 ml is where most women end up. And if the leaks have become more than a pad can hold, ask about TENA Lady pants, which take the place of underwear.

Is This Liner Right for You?

Please talk to our pharmacist or our doctor before you buy if any of these apply.

  • Using more than one a day, or finding it saturated. You have outgrown a liner. A pad will cost less and work better.
  • Currently using cosmetic panty liners and getting damp or sore. That is the liner rather than you. Let us show you the difference.
  • The liner keeps shifting. Usually the underwear. Ask us before you move up a size.
  • Red, itchy or sore skin, or any discharge. Come and see us, because thrush and urine rash look alike and are treated differently.
  • Leaking that is new, worse, began after childbirth or surgery, or comes with pain, burning or blood. Please see our doctor first.
  • Leaking only on exercise, coughing or lifting. Ask about pelvic floor training. Treated early this is often solved rather than managed.

TENA Lady Slim Ultra Mini: Your Questions Answered

How much do these panty liners for bladder leaks hold?

92 ml on the standard laboratory test, which is many times what an ordinary cosmetic panty liner manages.

Is this a pad or a liner?

A liner, and the lightest protection in the range apart from the very smallest. It is for drops and dribbles rather than a proper leak.

How many are in a pack?

Twenty-eight. At one a day that is a month, which is the point of this pack size.

How thin is it?

Around 3 mm thick and 19 cm long, so it disappears inside underwear.

How do I know if I need a pad instead?

If you are using more than one a day, or finding it saturated rather than damp. A pad will cost less over a month and work better.

Why not just use ordinary panty liners?

A cosmetic liner is built for light discharge, with an open surface and very little core, so urine arrives faster than it is taken in and runs out at the edge.

Will it smell?

The core gels the urine and locks it away from the surface, so the ammonia smell never develops the way it does on a cosmetic liner.

How does it stay in place?

Wide adhesive strips on the back stick it inside ordinary underwear. Press along the whole length, and note the shape is asymmetric so it sits a particular way round.

Mine keeps shifting. Why?

Usually the underwear. Close-fitting cotton holds a liner far better than loose or silky underwear.

Are they individually wrapped?

Yes, which is what makes a packet easy to carry in a handbag without announcing itself.

How often should I change one?

When it is damp rather than once it feels wet, and at least once a day even if it seems dry, because urine need not be visible to irritate skin.

My skin has become sore. What now?

Wash gently, pat dry rather than rubbing, and use a thin layer of barrier cream. If it persists, or there is itching, burning or discharge, come and see us.

Could the leaking be treated rather than managed?

Very often, yes, and early is better. Leaking on coughing, laughing or lifting usually responds well to supervised pelvic floor training. Our doctor can tell you what is worth trying.
