TENA Lady Plus Pants: Incontinence Pants for Women That Replace Underwear Altogether
Incontinence pants for women help you stop relying on a pad staying where you put it, because the whole garment is the protection. TENA Lady Plus pants are pulled on like ordinary underwear, in a soft stretch fabric with flat side seams and a body-close cut, published for moderate to heavy bladder weakness at 6 on the eight-point absorbency scale used across the range.
Women move to pants for one of two reasons: the leaks have grown past what a pad holds, or a pad has been shifting and letting them down at the edge. Either way the relief is the same, which is not having to think about it between changes. Please give our pharmacist your hip measurement before you order, because these come in sizes, the ranges overlap, and the size is what decides whether they work at all.
Getting the Size Right
Measure around the widest part of the hips with a tape measure, over light clothing, and send us the figure in centimetres. The published hip ranges are 75 to 105 cm for Medium and 95 to 130 cm for Large, so there is an overlap, and in the overlap the shape of the person matters as much as the number.
A pant that is too large leaks at the thigh because the leg opening gapes. One that is too small rolls down at the waist and is uncomfortable all day. Tell us the measurement and tell us whether weight is carried at the waist or the hip, and we will pick with you. If you are moving from another brand, do not assume the size carries across.
Incontinence Pants for Women, or Pads?
This is the decision worth two minutes, because the two products suit different situations and cost differently.
- Pads are cheaper per change and discreet under most clothing. They suit light and medium leaks, and they need underwear that holds them firmly.
- Pants hold more, stay put when you move, and remove the worry about a pad shifting. They suit moderate and heavy leaks, long days out, travel and nights.
- Many women use both — pads on ordinary days, pants for a long journey, a wedding, a hospital appointment or a night when they want to sleep without checking.
- Ask us if you are unsure. We would rather sell you one pack of the right thing than three of the wrong one.
Putting Them On and Taking Them Off
They pull on and off like ordinary underwear, which is the point. For removal when they are wet, the side seams tear open, so a heavy pant need never be pulled down over your legs. Tear, fold inwards, and bin it.
They are a single-use garment, so they go in the bin rather than the wash, and please do not flush any part of one. Wear them in place of underwear rather than over it, because a pant worn over knickers sits away from the skin and leaks at the leg.
Changing Them, and Looking After the Skin
Three to five changes across a day suits most women, and the rule that matters more than the number is to change before the pant reaches its capacity rather than once it has. Skin kept damp for hours becomes sore, and sore skin is far harder to settle than it is to avoid.
At each change, wash gently with warm water or a mild cleanser, pat dry rather than rubbing, and apply a thin layer of barrier cream if there is any redness. Ask our pharmacist for the cream with your order. If soreness persists, or there is itching, burning or a discharge, come and see us rather than carrying on, because thrush and urine rash look very alike and are treated quite differently.
Leaking This Heavy Deserves a Diagnosis
If you have reached pants, the leaking is substantial, and that is exactly when it is worth finding out what is causing it rather than only managing it. Bladder leakage is rarely simply age, and a large share of it improves with treatment.
Leaking when you cough, laugh, sneeze or lift is usually stress incontinence, and supervised pelvic floor training helps a great many women, often substantially, even when the leaking has gone on for years. A sudden desperate urge with little warning is a different pattern with different treatments, including medicines that work well for some women. Our doctor can tell the two apart in one appointment. Please come in if the leaking is new, has got worse, began after childbirth or surgery, or comes with pain, burning, blood, or a change in how often you pass urine.
What We Can Honestly Tell You
These are the most comfortable and most reliable thing we sell for moderate to heavy leaks in women, and the flat seams and stretch fabric let them sit invisibly under clothes where a bulky pad shows. The range has been renamed, so you may see them as TENA Silhouette Plus; it is the same garment.
If the leaks are lighter than this, a pad will cost you far less: TENA Lady Extra at 475 ml or TENA Lady Normal at 325 ml. If somebody is being changed in bed rather than dressing themselves, a pant is the wrong product and an all-in-one brief is the right one: ask about TENA ProSkin Slip Plus.
Is This Incontinence Pant Right for You?
Please talk to our pharmacist or our doctor before you buy if any of these apply.
- You have not measured your hips. Send us the figure. Medium covers 75 to 105 cm and Large 95 to 130 cm, and the overlap needs a conversation.
- Leaking at the thigh. That is a pant a size too large rather than too little absorbency. Let us check before you spend more.
- Rolling down at the waist. A size too small. Same conversation, the other way.
- Red, itchy or sore skin, or any discharge. Come and see us, because thrush and urine rash look alike and are treated differently.
- Somebody who is changed in bed rather than dressing themselves. Ask about an all-in-one brief instead.
- Leaking that is new, worse, began after childbirth or surgery, or comes with pain, burning or blood. Please see our doctor. At this level it deserves a diagnosis.

TENA Lady Plus Pants: Your Questions Answered
What size should I order?
Measure around the widest part of the hips and send us the figure in centimetres. The published ranges are 75 to 105 cm for Medium and 95 to 130 cm for Large.
How absorbent are these incontinence pants for women?
They sit at 6 on the eight-point absorbency scale used across the range, published for moderate to heavy bladder weakness. Ask our pharmacist if you want them compared with a pad.
Should I choose incontinence pants for women, or pads?
Pads cost less per change and suit light to medium leaks. Pants hold more, stay put when you move and suit moderate to heavy leaks, long days out, travel and nights. Many women use both.
How do I take them off when they are wet?
The side seams tear open, so a heavy pant need never be pulled down over your legs. Tear, fold inwards and bin it.
Can they be washed and reused?
No, they are a single-use garment. They go in the bin rather than the wash, and no part of one should be flushed.
Do I wear them over my underwear?
In place of it. A pant worn over knickers sits away from the skin and will leak at the leg.
Mine leaks at the thigh. What is wrong?
Usually a size too large, so the leg opening gapes. Let us check the measurement before you buy a heavier product.
They roll down at the waist. Why?
Usually a size too small. Send us the hip measurement and we will put it right.
How often should they be changed?
Three to five times a day suits most women, and always before the pant reaches its capacity rather than once it has.
What should I do about sore skin?
Wash gently, pat dry rather than rubbing, and use a thin layer of barrier cream. If it persists, or there is itching, burning or discharge, come and see us.
Are they suitable for someone who is bed-bound?
A pant suits somebody who dresses themselves. For somebody changed in bed, an all-in-one brief with tabs is the better product, so ask us about those.
Why are they sometimes called TENA Silhouette Plus?
The range was renamed. It is the same garment under a new name and we stock it either way.
Could the leaking be treated rather than managed?
Often, yes, even after years. Leaking on coughing or lifting usually responds to supervised pelvic floor training, and a sudden desperate urge has its own treatments. Our doctor can tell you which you have.
