OLIMP CARBONOX 1kg Stawberry

Olimp Carbonox 1 kg Strawberry helps your muscles recover after a session that has left your legs heavy, because carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function once hard or long training has emptied them. One 50 g scoop gives about 47 g of carbohydrate from glucose, maltodextrins and isomaltulose, and a 1 kg tub is 20 scoops. It is a recovery and top-up powder rather than a drink to sip during a session, and it is not suitable if you live with diabetes, so please ask our pharmacist if you are unsure.

Description

Olimp Carbonox 1 kg Strawberry helps your muscles recover after a session that has left your legs heavy and emptied them of fuel, which is what people reach for a carbohydrate powder for. It is a carbohydrate drink powder — maltodextrins, glucose and isomaltulose, with a little L-arginine hydrochloride and a vitamin and mineral premix — mixed with water and taken around training. One 1 kg tub holds 20 scoops of 50 g.

What Olimp Carbonox Does, in Plain Terms

Hard or long training empties the glycogen stored in your muscles, and that emptiness is what heavy legs the next morning actually are. Carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function after highly intensive or long-lasting exercise that leads to muscle fatigue and the depletion of glycogen stores in skeletal muscle. That is the one thing about this category with proper standing behind it, and it is the reason to own a tub.

There is a condition attached to it and you should know it, because it changes how much you use. The effect comes from carbohydrate from all sources, food included, at a total of 4 g for every kilogram you weigh, taken in portions within the first 4 hours after training and no later than 6 hours. For a 70 kg person that is about 280 g of carbohydrate. A 50 g scoop gives roughly 47 g, so a scoop is part of that total rather than all of it. Use it to top up around your meals, not to replace them.

Why This Is a Recovery Powder Rather Than a Sports Drink

A carbohydrate drink can carry two further statements — one about maintaining endurance during prolonged exercise, one about helping you absorb water while you train — but only if the drink is mixed to a particular strength, within a set energy band and carrying at least 460 mg of sodium per litre. Mixed at one scoop in 200 to 250 ml, this sits at roughly double to triple that energy band and well below the sodium floor, so neither statement belongs on a tub used the way this one is.

What that means for you in practice is simple and useful: this is a recovery and top-up powder, not a sports drink to sip through a session. If you want something to drink while you train, ask our pharmacist and we will point you at the right thing instead of selling you this one twice over.

How to Mix It, and Why the Water Matters

One scoop of 50 g in 200 to 250 ml of water, taken about 30 minutes before training or straight after it, is the normal way to use Carbonox. Shake it well; the isomaltulose takes a moment to go.

At that strength it is a concentrated drink, and concentrated carbohydrate sitting in your stomach during exercise is what causes the cramping, bloating and dash for the toilet that people blame on the powder. Two things prevent it. Take it before or after the session rather than in the middle of one. And if you do want to sip it through a long ride or a long run, put a single scoop in 600 to 700 ml of water instead, which brings it down to about the strength of a proper sports drink.

Two to four scoops a day is the usual range for someone training hard. Build up rather than starting at four, and take the first one or two days as a test of how your stomach handles it.

What Is Actually in a Scoop

About 47 g of carbohydrate, of which roughly 12 g are sugars, giving just under 200 kcal. The carbohydrate comes from three sources that release at different speeds — glucose quickly, maltodextrins in the middle, isomaltulose slowly — which is why the tub is used around training rather than with meals.

There is also about 1% L-arginine hydrochloride, a vitamin and mineral premix including vitamin C, the B group, vitamins A, D and E, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, iodine and chromium, citric and malic acid, strawberry flavouring, and the sweeteners acesulfame K and sucralose. If it is the vitamins and minerals you are after, the amounts here are a modest top-up rather than the point of the tub; come and talk to our pharmacist about a multivitamin instead and keep this one for what it is good at. On the L-arginine, there is not enough in a scoop to matter; our single-ingredient L-arginine capsules are the honest option if that is what you want, and we will tell you plainly where the evidence there stops.

Please note the strawberry colour comes from carmine, which is made from insects. It is worth knowing if you are vegetarian or vegan, if you avoid insect-derived ingredients for religious reasons, or if you have reacted to carmine before. Other flavours of this tub use plant colours instead, so ask us and we will tell you what we have in stock.

If You Live With Diabetes, or Watch Your Blood Sugar

This product is not suitable for you. A scoop puts close to 47 g of carbohydrate, 12 g of it sugar, into your bloodstream quickly, and that is the whole design of it. Please do not use it, and come and see us instead — our doctor can look at what you are training for and what you are taking, and there are sensible ways to fuel a session that keep your readings steady.

If you have never had your blood sugar checked and you are over 35, carrying weight around the middle, or you have a parent or sibling with diabetes, come in and let us check it before you start any high-carbohydrate powder. It takes a few minutes and we would rather you knew.

Is Olimp Carbonox Right for You?

It suits someone training hard enough to empty their muscles — long rides and runs, football, rugby, two sessions a day, heavy lifting blocks — who struggles to eat enough carbohydrate afterwards. It also suits someone trying to gain weight who finds solid food hard going.

Please speak to us first, or choose something else, if any of these describes you:

  • You live with diabetes, or you are watching your blood sugar. This is not suitable for you.
  • You train two or three easy times a week. Your meals already cover what you use, and a tub of carbohydrate you do not need becomes weight you did not want.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding. Please talk to our doctor before you start.
  • You take medicines for your heart or your blood sugar. Bring the packets to the counter and our pharmacist will go through them with you.
  • You are under 18, even if you train seriously. Please see our doctor first.
  • You are vegetarian or vegan, or you avoid insect-derived ingredients. The strawberry colour is carmine, so ask us which flavour to take instead.

And if you are not sure which of these describes you, ask our pharmacist — we would rather sell you the right tub once than the wrong tub twice.

Olimp Carbonox 1 kg Strawberry: Your Questions Answered

What is Olimp Carbonox used for?

Refilling the carbohydrate your muscles use up in hard or long training. Carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function after intensive or long-lasting exercise that empties the glycogen stored in your muscles. It is also used by people trying to gain weight who find eating enough solid food difficult.

How much carbohydrate is in a scoop?

About 47 g in a 50 g scoop, roughly 12 g of it sugars, giving just under 200 kcal. The carbohydrate comes from glucose, maltodextrins and isomaltulose, which release at different speeds.

How do I mix it?

One 50 g scoop in 200 to 250 ml of water, shaken well, about 30 minutes before training or straight after. Two to four scoops a day is the usual range when you are training hard; build up to it rather than starting there.

Can I drink it during a session?

At the normal mixing strength it is concentrated, and concentrated carbohydrate during exercise is what causes cramping and stomach upset. If you want to sip it through a long run or ride, put one scoop in 600 to 700 ml of water, which brings it to about the strength of a sports drink. Otherwise take it before or after.

Will it help me keep going for longer during exercise?

We are not able to tell you that, and here is why. A carbohydrate drink can carry an endurance statement only when it is mixed to a set strength, with a minimum amount of sodium, and this one at its normal dilution sits outside that range on both counts. The recovery benefit is the one with proper standing behind it. Ask our pharmacist if endurance during the session is what you are after and we will show you something built for it.

How many servings are in the tub?

Twenty scoops of 50 g in a 1 kg tub. At two scoops on each training day, a tub covers ten sessions, so tell us how many weeks you want covered and we will work out the order.

Can I use it if I have diabetes?

No. A scoop delivers close to 47 g of fast carbohydrate, 12 g of it sugar. Please come and see our doctor instead and we will go through ways to fuel your training that suit you.

Will it make me gain fat?

Carbohydrate you use up in training gets stored in your muscles; carbohydrate you do not use counts towards your total for the day like any other food. The honest answer is that this suits people training hard enough to empty their muscles. If you train two or three easy sessions a week, your meals already cover it and you do not need the tub.

Is it suitable for vegetarians and vegans?

The strawberry flavour is coloured with carmine, which comes from insects, so it is not. Other flavours of this tub use plant colours. Ask us what we have in stock and we will tell you.

Can I take it with creatine or protein?

Yes, and taking creatine alongside carbohydrate is a common way to use it. Our pure creatine monohydrate is the one product in this category with an authorised performance claim behind it at 3 g a day. Our pharmacist will set out a simple order for the two if you tell us what you are training for.

Does it contain caffeine or a stimulant?

No. It is carbohydrate, a small amount of L-arginine hydrochloride, vitamins, minerals, flavouring and sweeteners, so it will not keep you awake if you train in the evening.

Can beginners use it?

They can, but most beginners do not need it, and we will say so at the counter. Training hard enough to empty your muscles is what makes a carbohydrate powder useful. Come and tell our pharmacist what your week looks like and we will tell you honestly whether to buy it yet.

Can children or teenagers use it?

Please speak to our doctor first before giving it to anyone under 18, even one who trains seriously.
