What This Juniper Berry Tea Is For, and Two Corrections to the Label
Nutra Flow is the juniper berry tea people reach for when a urine infection has them stinging and running to the toilet, or when they feel puffy and want to shift some fluid, two to three cups a day. The blend is black tea at 20%, acerola, parsley and yarrow at 10% each and cranberry at 5%, with cleavers, uva ursi, horse chestnut, horsetail, juniper berry and goldenseal alongside them.
The tea is caffeine-free, and black tea is the largest single ingredient. And it contains uva ursi, which is a one-week herb rather than a daily one. Both are below, along with the kind of urinary symptom that needs a test rather than a cup.
This Juniper Berry Tea Carries Caffeine
Black tea is 20% of this blend, which makes it the biggest declared ingredient, and black tea carries caffeine. Low caffeine is the accurate description of this tea, and that is how we will describe it.
It matters for four groups in particular: mothers who are breastfeeding, anyone whose blood pressure is being watched, anyone whose sleep is already poor, and anyone told by a doctor to cut caffeine out. Please come and ask our pharmacist in any of those cases, because we stock blends with none in them and we would rather sort that out at the counter than leave you to the front of the box.
Uva Ursi Is a One-Week Herb
Uva ursi, which is bearberry leaf, is in this blend. Published traditional use runs to one week and no longer, and it is contraindicated in kidney disorders, not recommended under eighteen, not recommended for men, to be avoided in pregnancy and not recommended while breastfeeding.
No percentage is given for the uva ursi here, so a cup gives considerably less than the 1.5 to 4 g of bearberry leaf that a traditional dose describes. That is worth knowing in both directions: the exposure is modest, and the one-week habit is still the sensible one. If what you want is a daily cup, our Nutra Cleanse Tea carries no uva ursi at all; and if you are treating a water infection this week, our Nutra Release declares its uva ursi at 20% and is built for exactly that. One harmless thing to expect so it comes as no surprise: uva ursi can turn urine a greenish-brown colour.
Four Days of Juniper Berry Tea, Then a Urine Test
If you are drinking this for a water infection, give it four days. Symptoms that have not settled by then, or are getting worse, want a urine test and often an antibiotic, and our doctor can arrange both.
And please come to us the same day, or go to a clinic, if you have a fever or shivering, blood in your urine, pain in your back or side, vomiting or severe cramping. Those suggest the infection has reached the kidney, which needs treating properly and quickly. A tea is the wrong answer to every one of them.
Swelling That Deserves a Cause
If it is puffiness rather than infection that brought you here, this is the part we care about most. Ankles that swell can be nothing more than heat, long hours standing and a day in tight shoes, which is the kind this tea suits. They can also be the heart, the kidneys, the liver, a blood pressure medicine or a thyroid that has slowed, and a herbal tea shifts water around while the cause goes unexamined.
So please come and see our doctor rather than buying a second box if the swelling is there every morning before you have been on your feet, if it has come on over a few weeks, if you are breathless lying flat or walking up a slope, if you are passing much less urine, or if your weight has climbed quickly. And come the same day if one leg alone is swollen, especially with calf pain, warmth or redness, because that can be a clot and it wants looking at today rather than on Monday.
Three Herbs in This Juniper Berry Tea With Rules of Their Own
Horse chestnut is here without a declared percentage. The research people have read about concerns a standardised seed extract rather than a teabag, so expect less of a cup than of the studies, and speak to us first if you take warfarin or any blood thinner.
Goldenseal contains berberine, which is traditionally avoided in pregnancy and in newborns and which interacts with a long list of prescription medicines. And parsley, juniper and horsetail are all traditional water-shifting herbs, which is three of them in one cup: if you already take a water tablet, a blood pressure medicine or anything a doctor has called a diuretic, you would be pushing the same effect twice. Shifting water can take potassium with it too, and the leg cramps and flatness people blame on the weather sometimes come from that, so tell our pharmacist what you take and we will go through it properly.
What We Are Permitted to Tell You
No health claim for juniper berry, uva ursi, cranberry, parsley, horsetail or any other botanical here is authorised, and every botanical claim submitted in Europe remains on hold. Cranberry in particular has been through three European assessments, in 2009, in 2014 and again in 2025, and each time the conclusion was that the evidence was insufficient to establish a cause and effect relationship for urinary health.
So we promise you nothing about flushing, cleansing, water retention, urinary health or infections, and nobody may tell you a tea treats cystitis. What we can give you is the proportions, the caffeine the front of the box leaves out, the one-week habit for the uva ursi, the four-day review, the red flags that mean the same day, and the medicines to tell us about. For a hot week on your feet, or alongside a urine test, a cup of this is a perfectly fair thing to buy.
Is This Juniper Berry Tea Right for You?
Please talk to our pharmacist or our doctor before you buy if any of these apply to you.
- Fever, shivering, blood in your urine, back or side pain, or vomiting. Come to us the same day. That is not a mild infection any more.
- One leg swollen on its own, with calf pain, warmth or redness. Also the same day. That can be a clot.
- Any kidney disorder. The uva ursi in this blend is contraindicated. Ask us for an alternative.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Uva ursi and goldenseal both restrict it, and the black tea carries caffeine. Please ask us for something suitable.
- A water tablet, a blood pressure medicine, warfarin or any blood thinner. Several ingredients here want checking against your list. Bring it in.
- Anyone under eighteen, or avoiding caffeine on medical advice. Not this one. We stock caffeine-free blends and will show you.

Nutra Flow Tea: Your Questions Answered
What is in this juniper berry tea?
Black tea at 20%, acerola, parsley and yarrow at 10% each and cranberry at 5%, with cleavers, uva ursi, horse chestnut, horsetail, juniper berry and goldenseal. Twenty bags to a box.
Is it caffeine-free?
No. Black tea is the largest single ingredient at 20%, so this is a low caffeine tea rather than a caffeine-free one. If you want a blend with none at all, ask our pharmacist and we will show you one.
How many cups a day?
Two to three, and we would keep them to the daytime because of the black tea.
How long can I drink it for?
The uva ursi in this blend has a published traditional limit of one week, so a week of daily cups then a break and a word with us. For everyday use, ask about a blend without uva ursi in it.
Can I drink it if I have kidney problems?
No. Uva ursi is contraindicated in kidney disorders. Please ask our pharmacist for an alternative.
Can I drink it in pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Please ask our pharmacist for something else. Uva ursi is to be avoided in pregnancy and not recommended while feeding, goldenseal is traditionally avoided too, and the black tea carries caffeine.
My urine has gone greenish-brown. Should I worry?
That is the uva ursi and it is expected. Blood in the urine looks different, and that one is a reason to come in.
Does it treat a urine infection or cystitis?
We make no claim of that kind and no such claim is authorised for any herb in here. If you are treating an infection, give it four days and come in for a urine test if it has not settled.
When should I come in the same day?
Fever or shivering, blood in your urine, pain in your back or side, vomiting, or one leg swollen on its own with calf pain, warmth or redness.
My ankles swell every day. Will this fix it?
It might make a hot day on your feet more comfortable. Swelling that is there every morning, or has built up over weeks, wants a cause found, so please come and see our doctor.
I take warfarin. Is that a problem?
Worth checking with us. Horse chestnut and goldenseal both want looking at against a blood thinner.
I am on a water tablet for blood pressure. Can I add this?
Speak to our pharmacist first. Parsley, juniper and horsetail are all traditional water-shifting herbs, so you would be pushing the same effect twice.
Is it the same as Nutra Release?
They are close. Nutra Release declares its uva ursi at 20% and is the one built for a week of urinary symptoms; this one has black tea, cranberry and horse chestnut in it instead. Ask our pharmacist which suits you.
