What Lemongrass Ginger Tea Gives You
Lemongrass ginger tea keeps you in caffeine-free, sugar-free cups from morning to bedtime, with 20 biodegradable bags that each brew up to three times.
That reuse is the thing worth knowing before you compare boxes. Most herbal tea bags are good for one cup; these natural-fibre bags hold their flavour through a second and third brew, so a 20-bag box stretches to as many as 60 cups. It is a half-and-half infusion of lemongrass and ginger with nothing else in it — no sugar, no caffeine, no flavourings.
What Is in a Box of Lemongrass Ginger Tea
Lemongrass, half the blend. The citrus note, and the reason the cup tastes bright rather than hot.
Ginger, the other half. The warmth at the back of it. A 50/50 blend is more ginger than most lemongrass teas carry, which is why this one is worth drinking without anything added.
Nothing else at all. Vegan and vegetarian, kosher, and free from gluten, wheat, soya, dairy and added sugar. Caffeine-free, so a cup at nine in the evening costs you nothing.
Biodegradable bags, fully compostable. Natural fibre rather than the plastic mesh most pyramid bags use, which is also why they survive three brews.
And what the 50/50 split actually changes in the cup. Most lemongrass teas treat ginger as an accent, a tenth of the blend or less, and taste mainly of citrus. At half and half the ginger arrives as heat at the back of the throat rather than as a note, which is why this one stands up to a second and third brew and why it works chilled. If you have tried a lemongrass tea before and found it thin, this is a different drink.
How to Brew It, and How to Get Three Cups from One Bag
200 ml of freshly boiled water, steeped 4 to 5 minutes, then squeeze the bag gently. The squeeze matters more here than with ordinary tea, because it is where the ginger comes through.
For the second and third brew, leave it a minute longer each time. Keep the bag in a covered cup or a small dish between brews rather than letting it dry out, and use it the same day.
Two or three cups a day is what we would suggest, and it is the figure on the box. Hot is the obvious way; chilled over ice with fresh mint is better than it sounds in Nairobi in January.
A practical note on the reuse. The bag wants to stay damp between brews, so a covered cup or a small saucer beats leaving it on the edge of the sink. Use it across the same day rather than keeping it overnight. Done that way the three brews are genuinely three cups rather than two good ones and a pale one.
What We Are Not Going to Tell You
A tea should carry what it can stand behind, so here is the honest position on this one.
No approved health claim exists anywhere in the European register for lemongrass or for ginger. Not for digestion, not for immunity, not for stress, not as an antioxidant. The whole category of plant claims has sat unassessed for years, which means a shop may not print a benefit beside a herb — and we will not.
What we can say is what it is: a clean, strong, caffeine-free infusion of two plants people in this part of the world have been drinking for generations, with no sugar in it and no claims attached. If a warm cup of ginger and lemongrass is something you enjoy and want in the house, that is reason enough and we will stock it for you.
If what you actually want is help with something specific, please ask our pharmacist rather than a tea. We will tell you honestly whether there is anything with evidence behind it, and sometimes the answer is that there is nothing worth your money.
We take the same line on the sugar question, because it comes up most. There is no added sugar in this box, and that is a statement about the ingredient list rather than a benefit for anybody’s blood glucose. Both things are worth knowing and only one of them is a claim, so we have kept them apart.
The Other Herbal Teas We Carry
We keep a small range rather than a wall of boxes, and they are genuinely different drinks.
For something earthier, a turmeric and black pepper infusion is the one to try, and the black pepper in it is there for a reason worth reading about on that page.
For something tart rather than warm, a cherry and nettle infusion is the other end of our range. Our pharmacist will tell you plainly what each one is and is not, the same as we have done here.
Is Lemongrass Ginger Tea Right for You?
- If you are pregnant. Ginger in food amounts is widely consumed in pregnancy, but two or three strong cups a day is more than a culinary amount and we would rather you asked us first. Please do not use it as a remedy for morning sickness without talking to our doctor.
- If you take a blood thinner, or you have surgery booked. Ginger in quantity is worth mentioning to whoever manages your anticoagulant. Bring your prescription to the counter and our pharmacist will look at it.
- If you are managing diabetes. This tea contains no added sugar, which is simply a fact about the ingredients rather than a benefit for your blood glucose. Keep taking what you have been prescribed, and our doctor can go through your diet properly if that is what you want.
- If you have reflux or a sensitive stomach. Strong ginger does not suit everybody. Start with one cup and a shorter steep.
- If you are giving it to a child. Please ask us about the amount first. A caffeine-free herbal tea is not the same thing as a drink made for children.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many cups do I get from a box?
Up to 60. There are 20 bags and each one brews up to three times, which is unusual — most herbal bags are good for a single cup. Leave the second and third brew a minute longer each time, keep the bag covered between brews rather than letting it dry, and use it the same day.
What is actually in it?
Lemongrass and ginger, half and half, and nothing else. No sugar, no caffeine, no flavourings. It is vegan, vegetarian and kosher, and free from gluten, wheat, soya and dairy.
What is lemongrass and ginger tea good for?
We will give you the straight answer. No approved health claim exists in the European register for lemongrass or for ginger — not for digestion, immunity, stress or antioxidant activity — because plant claims as a category have never been assessed. So we sell it as what it is: a strong, clean, caffeine-free infusion of two plants people here have drunk for generations. If you want help with something specific, please ask our pharmacist instead of a tea.
Is it suitable for diabetics?
It contains no added sugar, which is a fact about the ingredients rather than a benefit for your blood glucose, and we would rather put it that way round. Keep taking whatever you have been prescribed, and our doctor can go through your diet with you if that is useful.
Does it contain caffeine?
None at all. A cup late in the evening will not keep you up, which is the main practical reason people keep a herbal tea in the house.
Can I drink it during pregnancy?
Please ask us first. Ginger in cooking amounts is widely consumed in pregnancy, but two or three strong cups a day is more than a culinary amount. And please do not use it as a remedy for morning sickness without speaking to our doctor.
Can I drink it with my medicines?
Bring your list to the counter. The one worth checking is a blood thinner, since ginger in quantity is worth mentioning to whoever manages your anticoagulant. Tell your surgeon or dentist too if you have a procedure booked.
Is it strong?
Stronger than most, because the blend is half ginger rather than a pinch of it. If you have reflux or a sensitive stomach, start with one cup and a shorter steep. If you like it hotter, squeeze the bag harder — that is where the ginger lives.
Are the bags really compostable?
Yes. They are natural fibre rather than the plastic mesh most pyramid bags use, fully compostable, and that same fibre is why they hold up to three brews.
Can I drink it cold?
Yes, and it is worth doing. Brew it strong, let it cool, and pour it over ice with fresh mint.
