Kinder Omega-3 Syrup, 125 mg of DHA in a Spoonful
Kinder Omega-3 Syrup helps support your child’s growing bones and their immune system, supplying 125 mg of DHA in a 15 ml spoonful together with vitamin D, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and 8 B vitamins. A 250 ml orange-flavoured bottle from Doppelherz.
This is a multivitamin and an omega-3 in one syrup, which is the point of it: a child who refuses capsules will take a spoonful of orange syrup. Below you will find every amount at both doses, the ages each dose is for, what the formula genuinely earns the right to say, and the handful of things worth knowing before the first spoonful.
What a Dose Supplies
The panel runs at two doses, because the formula is built as a half dose for younger children and a full one for older. Every figure is from the manufacturer.
- DHA 125 mg per 15 ml, or 250 mg per 30 ml, with EPA at 27 mg and 54 mg, from 535 mg of sea fish oil per spoonful. DHA is the omega-3 concentrated in the brain and the retina, and at the 30 ml dose it reaches 250 mg, which is the amount at which DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and of normal vision.
- Vitamin D3 2.5 mcg per 15 ml, or 5 mcg per 30 ml. This is the strongest thing in the bottle for a growing child: vitamin D is needed for the normal growth and development of bone in children, and it also contributes to the normal function of the immune system, to normal muscle function and to the normal absorption of calcium. Half a reference intake in a spoonful, a full one in a cup.
- Vitamin C 100 mg per 15 ml, or 200 mg per 30 ml. More than a full adult reference intake even at the smaller dose. Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
- Vitamin A 200 mcg, or 400 mcg. Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, to the normal function of the immune system and to the maintenance of normal skin. This is where the eyesight benefit properly comes from at the smaller dose.
- Vitamin E 6 mg, or 12 mg. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, and at these amounts that claim is comfortably earned.
- Eight B vitamins: B1 0.55 mg, B2 0.7 mg, niacin 8 mg, pantothenic acid 3 mg, B6 0.7 mg, biotin 25 mcg and B12 1.25 mcg per 15 ml, each doubling at 30 ml. These are the quiet value in the bottle. Vitamin B6, vitamin B12, niacin and biotin each contribute to normal psychological function and to the normal functioning of the nervous system, and B2, niacin, B6, B12 and pantothenic acid all contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
- A 250 ml bottle, orange flavoured, with a measuring cup. At 15 ml a day that is about 16 days; at 30 ml a day it is about 8. Worth knowing before you buy, and it is the main reason to look at our chewable omega-3 for children, which lasts a month or two per pot, if your child is old enough to chew one.
So eleven nutrients with real amounts, most at half a reference intake per spoonful, in a format a four-year-old will swallow. A good product, and a better one described accurately.
How Much to Give, and at What Age
Children 4 to 7 years: 15 ml once a day. Children over 7: 30 ml once a day. Those are the manufacturer’s own bands, and the label adds, in capitals, not to exceed the stated daily dose.
For a child aged 1 to 3, the manufacturer asks you to consult a doctor, and our doctor can do that here. Please do not estimate a toddler’s dose down from the 4-year-old one. Bring the child and the bottle and leave with the amount written down in one visit. Below 12 months there is no manufacturer dose at all, so that is a conversation about whether this is the right product rather than about how much.
Shake the bottle well before every dose and use the cup that comes with it rather than a kitchen spoon. A fish oil syrup separates between uses, and a kitchen teaspoon holds about 5 ml, so a eyeballed “spoonful” can be a third of the intended dose.
Give it with or after food, which helps absorption of the DHA and the fat-soluble vitamins.
One honest note on the 30 ml dose. It is the dose at which the DHA reaches the 250 mg that earns the brain and vision claims, and it is also the dose that empties a 250 ml bottle in about 8 days. If your child is over 7 and DHA is the main reason you are buying, come and talk to us about which product gives you that amount most economically, because the answer may not be this one and we would rather say so.
Who This Suits
Children from 4 upwards who refuse capsules, which is most of them. Parents who want a multivitamin and an omega-3 in one daily step rather than two. Fussy eaters, where the eleven nutrients matter as much as the fish oil. Children whose diet includes little or no fish. And any parent who would rather buy a child’s supplement from a pharmacy that will read the age bands with them.
Is Kinder Omega-3 Syrup Right for Your Child?
Five things to settle with us, and on a children’s product we would genuinely rather you asked.
- UNDER 4, LET OUR DOCTOR SET IT, AND UNDER 12 MONTHS COME AND TALK TO US FIRST. The manufacturer asks for medical advice from 1 to 3 years and gives no dose below a year. Our doctor is here at the pharmacy and can weigh the child and settle it in one visit. If your own paediatrician has already set an amount, bring it in and we will match it.
- Tell us about any other vitamins your child takes. This syrup carries a full adult reference intake of eight B vitamins at the 30 ml dose, plus vitamin A and vitamin D, and children’s multivitamins carry the same things. The total is what matters and vitamin A in particular is worth adding up. Bring the bottles or photograph the labels and our pharmacist will total them in a minute.
- It is a fish product. The DHA and EPA come from sea fish oil, so it is not suitable for a child with a fish allergy, and not for a vegetarian or vegan diet. Tell us and we will show you what else we carry.
- It contains sugar, as sucrose, and it is a syrup. That is how it tastes of orange and how a child will take it willingly, and it is worth knowing if your child has dental work in progress or if sugar is being limited at home. Brushing teeth after the evening dose is sensible, or give it at breakfast instead. If a sugar-free format would suit you better, say so and we will point you at one.
- If your child takes any regular medicine, or has a medical condition, please have a word with us first. That holds for any supplement and particularly for one carrying eleven nutrients at once. Bring us the list, or speak to your own doctor, or ours.
Storing It
Keep the bottle below 25 degrees, out of direct sunlight and out of reach of children, and once you have opened it keep it somewhere cool and finish it within a month. In practice the bottle will be finished well inside a month at either dose, so the limit rarely binds. Shake well before each use, cap it tightly, and keep the measuring cup with the bottle rather than in the drawer. A cupboard rather than a windowsill, and the fridge is fine once opened if that is the coolest place you have.

Across Africa, ask us before you order. We have sent orders to Uganda, Tanzania, Somaliland and as far as Malawi, and we will quote for Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and the rest of the continent. Shellfish and bovine-derived ingredients occasionally need an import declaration, and this formula contains both, so tell us the destination and we will confirm the paperwork before the parcel leaves us.
Living abroad? Order from wherever you are and we deliver to your family here in Kenya. Kenyans in the UK, the United States, Canada, South Africa and the Gulf order from us regularly for parents and relatives at home. A joint supplement is a sensible thing to send, because the benefit builds over months and a steady supply matters far more than a single bottle. Two tablets a day is also the easiest regimen to keep up with. Tell us who it is for, how many months you want covered, and whether they have a shellfish allergy or avoid beef, and we will set up the repeat.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Kinder Omega-3 Syrup used for?
It is a combined omega-3 and multivitamin syrup for children. Each 15 ml spoonful gives 125 mg of DHA plus vitamin D, which is needed for the normal growth and development of bone in children, vitamin C and vitamin D for the normal function of the immune system, vitamin A for the maintenance of normal vision, vitamin E for the protection of cells from oxidative stress, and 8 B vitamins that contribute to normal psychological function and the normal functioning of the nervous system.
At what age can children take it?
From 4 years at 15 ml a day, and over 7 years at 30 ml a day. For a child aged 1 to 3 the manufacturer asks you to consult a doctor, and our doctor can do that here at the pharmacy. Below 12 months there is no manufacturer dose at all, so please come and talk to us about whether this is the right product rather than working out an amount.
How much DHA and EPA does it contain?
DHA 125 mg and EPA 27 mg per 15 ml, doubling to DHA 250 mg and EPA 54 mg per 30 ml, from 535 mg of sea fish oil per spoonful. The 30 ml dose is the one that reaches the 250 mg of DHA at which the brain function and vision benefits apply.
How long does a bottle last?
It is a 250 ml bottle, so about 16 days at 15 ml a day and about 8 days at 30 ml. We print that because no listing seems to and it matters when you are comparing. If the daily cost is a consideration, a chewable capsule works out considerably cheaper per day for a child old enough to chew one, and we will happily work the comparison through with you at the counter.
Does it help with learning and concentration at school?
Here is the straight answer, because it is the question we are asked most. What this syrup may lawfully and accurately claim is that its B vitamins contribute to normal psychological function and to the normal functioning of the nervous system, that its DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function at the 30 ml dose, and that several of its nutrients help reduce tiredness and fatigue. What nobody can promise you is faster learning or better marks, and we would rather not be the shop that does. If you are worried about a specific difficulty your child is having at school, that deserves proper assessment, and our doctor is here.
Will it stop my child catching colds?
No supplement will do that, and we will not tell you otherwise. What is true and worth having is that vitamin C and vitamin D both contribute to the normal function of the immune system, and this syrup carries more than a full reference intake of vitamin C and half of vitamin D in a single spoonful. That is support for a system doing its job rather than a shield.
Does it contain sugar?
Yes, as sucrose, which is part of why children take it without a fight. If your child has dental work in progress or sugar is being limited at home, give it at breakfast rather than bedtime, or brush afterwards. Tell us if you would rather have a sugar-free format and we will show you the alternatives.
Does it contain fish?
Yes, the DHA and EPA come from sea fish oil, so it is not suitable for a child with a fish allergy, nor for a vegetarian or vegan diet. Come and talk to us and we will show you what else we carry.
Can my child take it alongside a multivitamin?
Bring both in and let us add them up. At the 30 ml dose this carries a full adult reference intake of 8 B vitamins plus vitamin A and vitamin D, and children’s multivitamins carry much the same list. Vitamin A in particular is worth totalling. It is a one-minute check at the counter.
Can adults take it?
It is formulated and dosed for children, so an adult would be taking a child’s amounts. If you want an omega-3 for yourself, our wild Alaskan salmon oil is built for adult amounts and delivers 800 mg of EPA and DHA across its daily dose. Ask our pharmacist and we will match you to the right one.
How should it be given, and how long before it helps?
Shake the bottle well, measure it with the cup that comes with it rather than a kitchen spoon, and give it with or after food. On timing we would rather be honest than encouraging: nutrient status shifts over months rather than days and there is nothing to watch for week by week. Give it steadily and judge it with your doctor rather than against a calendar.
