Lamberts Omega 3 for Kids, a Chewable 100 mg of DHA
Lamberts Omega 3 for Kids helps support your child’s growing bones and their immune system, supplying 100 mg of DHA in one soft chewable capsule along with vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D and vitamin E. Blackcurrant flavoured, sugar free, and suitable from 3 years.
The format is the thing here. This is a soft capsule a child chews rather than swallows, it tastes of blackcurrant, and it carries no sugar at all. Below you will find every amount, what the formula properly earns the right to say, how many capsules at what age, and the two or three things worth checking before you buy.
What One Capsule Supplies
Per chewable capsule, from the manufacturer’s own panel.
- DHA 100 mg, with EPA 14 mg, from 200 mg of fish oil concentrate. A concentrate rather than a plain oil, which is how 100 mg of DHA fits into a capsule small enough for a child to chew. At two capsules that is 200 mg of DHA a day.
- Vitamin D 2.5 mcg. This is the strongest claim in the capsule for a growing child: vitamin D is needed for the normal growth and development of bone in children. It also contributes to the normal function of the immune system, to normal muscle function and to the normal absorption of calcium. Half a reference intake in one capsule.
- Vitamin A 200 mcg. Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, to the normal function of the immune system and to the maintenance of normal skin. This is where the eyesight benefit actually comes from.
- Vitamin C 30 mg. Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, and that amount clears the threshold for both.
- Vitamin E 1.5 mg. We will be straight with you here: at one capsule this sits just below the amount needed to make a vitamin E claim, and at two capsules it clears it. So the antioxidant contribution is real at two a day and marginal at one.
- Sugar free, and free of a long list of allergens. Sweetened with mannitol and sucralose rather than sugar, and made without wheat, gluten, barley, soya, egg, milk, lactose, nuts, shellfish, sulphites, celery or yeast. It does contain fish, which is the point of it.
- A gelatine-free capsule shell, built from glycerol, modified starch, cellulose and carrageenan. Worth knowing if gelatine is a consideration in your household, although the fish oil inside means the product is not vegetarian.
- 60 capsules to a pot, which is one to two months depending on the daily number.
So four vitamins and a concentrated DHA in something a three-year-old will chew without an argument, with no sugar and a short, clean ingredient list. For a parent who has fought a losing battle with a spoon, that combination is the whole proposition.
How Many, and at What Age
Children aged 3 and over: chew 1 to 2 capsules daily, preferably with a meal. That is the manufacturer’s instruction, and it leaves the choice between one and two to you, which is exactly the kind of thing to settle with our pharmacist rather than guess at.
Our general approach is to start a younger child at one and consider two for an older child, or where the diet carries no fish at all. Two capsules also lifts the vitamin E to the amount at which it carries its claim, and brings the DHA to 200 mg. Tell us your child’s age and what they eat, and we will write the number down for you.
They are chewed, not swallowed. The capsule is soft and releases the blackcurrant flavour as the child bites it. A child who swallows it whole has not done anything wrong, it simply dissolves a little slower.
Below 3 years, please come and talk to us first. The manufacturer’s floor is 3 years and a chewable capsule is a choking consideration in a toddler quite apart from the dose. Our doctor is here at the pharmacy and can advise on what suits a younger child, and a measured syrup is usually the better format at that age.
With a meal, and steadily. The DHA and three of the four vitamins are fat soluble, so food helps. Nutrient status shifts over months rather than days, so give it consistently and judge it with your doctor rather than week by week.
Who This Suits
Children from 3 who will chew a capsule, and particularly those who have refused syrups. Households limiting sugar, since this carries none. Children with several food sensitivities, given how short the exclusion list makes the ingredients. Parents who want a pot that lasts a month or two rather than a bottle that lasts a fortnight. Children whose diet includes little or no oily fish. And any parent who would rather have the amounts read out to them at a counter than guess from a label.
Is Lamberts Omega 3 for Kids Right for Your Child?
Four things to settle with us. The manufacturer records no known cautions at the recommended intake, so most of this is about getting the fit right rather than about risk.
- LET US SET THE NUMBER, ONE OR TWO. The label gives a range and leaves the choice to you, which is the single most useful thing a pharmacist can settle in a minute. Age, diet and whether your child takes anything else all come into it, and we will write it down so you have it at home.
- UNDER 3, COME AND TALK TO US RATHER THAN HALVING A CAPSULE. The manufacturer’s floor is 3 years, and a chewable capsule raises a choking question in a toddler regardless of the amount. Our doctor is here and can advise on the right format and amount for a younger child.
- It contains fish. Not suitable for a child with a fish allergy, and not for a vegetarian or vegan diet, although the capsule shell itself is gelatine free. Tell us and we will show you what else we carry.
- Tell us about any other vitamins your child takes, and about any regular medicine. This capsule carries vitamin A and vitamin D, and children’s multivitamins carry both as well, so the total is what counts and vitamin A is the one worth adding up. Bring the bottles or photograph the labels and our pharmacist will total them with you. If your child takes any regular medicine or has a medical condition, a word with us or with your own doctor first is the right order of things.
Storing It
Keep the pot tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from light, and out of reach of children — which with a blackcurrant-flavoured chewable is worth taking literally, since they taste pleasant enough that a child may help themselves. A cupboard rather than a windowsill or the shelf above the cooker, since fish oils and vitamins A and E all degrade with heat and light. No refrigeration needed.

At two tablets a day a bottle runs for a long time, so tell us the pack size you want and we will work out how many months that covers before you order.
Across Africa, ask us before you order. We have sent orders to Uganda, Tanzania, Somaliland and as far as Malawi, and we will quote for Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and the rest of the continent. Shellfish and bovine-derived ingredients occasionally need an import declaration, and this formula contains both, so tell us the destination and we will confirm the paperwork before the parcel leaves us.
Living abroad? Order from wherever you are and we deliver to your family here in Kenya. Kenyans in the UK, the United States, Canada, South Africa and the Gulf order from us regularly for parents and relatives at home. A joint supplement is a sensible thing to send, because the benefit builds over months and a steady supply matters far more than a single bottle. Two tablets a day is also the easiest regimen to keep up with. Tell us who it is for, how many months you want covered, and whether they have a shellfish allergy or avoid beef, and we will set up the repeat.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Lamberts Omega 3 for Kids used for?
It is a chewable omega-3 and vitamin capsule for children from 3 years. Each capsule gives 100 mg of DHA plus vitamin D, which is needed for the normal growth and development of bone in children, vitamin A for the maintenance of normal vision, and vitamin A and vitamin C for the normal function of the immune system.
How much DHA and EPA does one capsule contain?
DHA 100 mg and EPA 14 mg, from 200 mg of fish oil concentrate. At two capsules a day that is 200 mg of DHA. It is a concentrate rather than a plain fish oil, which is how that much DHA fits into a capsule a child can chew.
How many capsules should my child take?
The manufacturer says 1 to 2 a day from 3 years, with a meal, and leaves the choice to you. Please let our pharmacist settle it: we generally start a younger child at one and consider two for an older child or where the diet carries no fish at all. Two capsules also brings the vitamin E up to the amount at which it carries its claim.
At what age can my child start?
Three years is the manufacturer’s floor. Below that, please come and talk to us rather than halving a capsule — a chewable raises a choking question in a toddler quite apart from the amount, and a measured syrup is usually the better format for a younger child. Our doctor is here and can advise.
Does my child chew it or swallow it?
Chew it. The capsule is soft and releases the blackcurrant flavour as they bite. If your child swallows one whole no harm is done, it simply dissolves a little more slowly.
Does it contain sugar?
No. It is sweetened with mannitol and sucralose, so there is no sugar at all, which is one of the real advantages of this one over a syrup if sugar is being limited at home or there is dental work in progress.
Will it help my child concentrate or do better at school?
We would rather give you the accurate answer than the one that sells more. What this capsule may properly claim is that its vitamin D is needed for the normal growth and development of bone in children, that its vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, and that vitamin A and vitamin C contribute to the normal function of the immune system. Better marks or sharper concentration are beyond what anyone can promise from a supplement, and if you are worried about something specific your child is struggling with at school, that deserves a proper assessment — our doctor is here and can see you.
Does it contain fish, or any common allergens?
It contains fish, which is where the DHA comes from, so it is not suitable for a child with a fish allergy nor for a vegetarian or vegan diet. It is made without wheat, gluten, barley, soya, egg, milk, lactose, nuts, shellfish, sulphites, celery and yeast, and the capsule shell is gelatine free, which makes it one of the cleaner children’s supplements on our shelf for a child with several sensitivities.
How long does a pot last?
There are 60 capsules, so one to two months depending on whether your child takes one or two a day. That is a longer run than a syrup gives you, and it is worth weighing when you compare: a 250 ml syrup lasts about 16 days at the younger-child dose, so the capsules work out considerably cheaper per day for a child old enough to chew one.
Can my child take it alongside a multivitamin?
Bring both in and let us add them up. This capsule carries vitamin A and vitamin D, and children’s multivitamins carry both too, so the total is what matters and vitamin A is the one worth totalling. It takes a minute at the counter.
Can adults take it?
The amounts are set for children, so an adult would be taking a child’s dose. If you want an omega-3 for yourself, our wild Alaskan salmon oil is built for adult amounts and reaches 800 mg of EPA and DHA across its daily dose. Ask our pharmacist and we will match you up properly.
