DHA Mini Drops

DHA drops help parents give a young child omega-3 in the one format a baby will actually take, measured by dropper and mixable straight into milk, juice or food. DHA is the omega-3 concentrated in the brain and the retina, and it is the nutrient paediatricians most often mean when they recommend omega-3 for a small child. Please bring the bottle and your child to our doctor before the first drop, and tell our pharmacist your child’s age and weight, because a dose for an infant comes from both.

DHA Drops for a Baby, Measured by Dropper

DHA drops help parents give a young child omega-3 in the one format a baby will actually take, measured by dropper and mixable straight into milk, juice or food. A liquid rather than a capsule.

DHA is the omega-3 concentrated in the brain and the retina, and it is the nutrient paediatricians most often mean when they recommend an omega-3 for a small child. Below you will find what DHA is, why a dropper matters at this age, how the amount gets decided and who decides it, and what to bring us when you come in.

What Is in DHA Drops, and Why the Format Matters

Two things worth knowing before you buy anything of this kind for a child.

  • DHA stands for docosahexaenoic acid, one of the two long-chain omega-3s the body relies on the diet to supply. It is found in oily fish, and it is concentrated in the brain and in the retina of the eye — which is why DHA rather than EPA comes up in conversations about small children.
  • A dropper is the only sensible format at this age, and that is the honest case for this product over any capsule. A baby is unable to swallow a softgel and will refuse to chew one. Drops go into milk, into juice, into a spoonful of porridge or straight into the mouth, and the amount can be matched to the child and adjusted as they grow. That flexibility is the whole reason paediatric supplements are made as liquids.
  • It mixes without a fight, which matters more than any formulation detail. A supplement a child refuses ends up sitting in a cupboard, and with a small child a product that goes down easily is the difference between a course finished and a bottle wasted.
  • Please ask us to read the label with you. We would rather do that at the counter than print figures here, and the next section explains why. For an older child who will take a spoonful, our measured omega-3 syrup is dosed by age from 4 years, and from 3 years there is a chewable capsule.

How Much of the DHA Drops to Give, and Who Decides

Please come and see us, or bring the bottle in, before the first drop. We would rather say that plainly than print an amount, and on a product for infants the reason is straightforward: the right amount depends entirely on the child.

Our doctor is here at the pharmacy and can set it properly in one visit. A dose for a baby or a toddler is worked out from age and weight, it differs from a scaled-down adult amount, and it belongs with a professional rather than with a web page. Bring the child and the bottle and leave with the amount written down so you have it at home. If your own paediatrician has already set an amount, bring that in and we will match it exactly.

Shake the bottle well before every dose. An oil suspension separates between uses, so a drop from an unshaken bottle differs from a drop from a shaken one.

Give it with a feed or with food. DHA is fat soluble, so it absorbs better alongside milk or a meal, and it is gentler on a small stomach that way.

Use the dropper that comes with the bottle. Use it rather than a kitchen spoon or another product’s dropper, because droppers are calibrated differently and the difference on a child-sized dose is large.

Who This Suits

Babies and young children where a doctor has recommended omega-3 and set the amount, and ours can. Children who eat no fish at all, which in practice is a great many of them. Fussy eaters, where getting anything into a child is the real problem and a few drops in milk solves it. Children whose paediatrician has mentioned DHA by name. Families who would rather measure a liquid than crush or divide something made for adults. And any parent who would rather have a pharmacist and a doctor set a child’s dose than work it out from a label.

Is This Right for Your Child?

Four things to settle with us, and on a product for infants we would genuinely rather you asked than guessed.

  • LET OUR DOCTOR SET THE AMOUNT BEFORE THE FIRST DROP, AND TELL US YOUR CHILD’S AGE AND WEIGHT. This is the whole of it. A paediatric dose comes from age and weight, our doctor is here at the pharmacy and can do it in one visit, and you will leave with the amount written down. If your paediatrician has already set it, bring that in and we will match it.
  • TELL US IF YOUR CHILD IS UNDER SIX MONTHS, OR IS EXCLUSIVELY BREASTFED OR ON FORMULA. Both of those change the conversation rather than the dose, because infant formula is already fortified and breast milk carries DHA from the mother’s own diet. Our doctor will look at the whole picture, and it is possible the answer is that your child is already getting enough — in which case we will say so.
  • This is a fish-derived product. If there is any history of fish allergy in your child or in close family, tell us before the first drop rather than after. Come and talk to us and we will go through it.
  • Tell us what else your child takes. Children’s multivitamins, infant drops and fortified formula all carry nutrients that can overlap, and the total across everything is what matters for a small child far more than for an adult. Bring the bottles or photograph the labels and our pharmacist will add them up with you in a minute.

Storing It

Keep the bottle upright and tightly capped in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, below 25 degrees, and well out of reach of children. A cupboard rather than a windowsill or the shelf above the cooker, since fish oils oxidise with heat and light. Shake well before each use. Note the date you opened it and ask us what the shelf life is once opened, because a liquid oil usually has a shorter one than the printed expiry suggests, and keep the dropper with the bottle rather than in a drawer.

Where to Buy OsteoMove in Kenya

Order online and we deliver countrywide, or collect from our pharmacy at Kahawa Sukari Shopping Center, Nairobi. We send orders to Nairobi and every neighbourhood around it — the CBD, Westlands, Parklands, Gigiri, Muthaiga, Runda, Rosslyn, Kitisuru, Lower Kabete, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Karen, Langata, South B, South C, Eastleigh, Buruburu, Donholm, Embakasi, Ngong Road, Kasarani, Roysambu, Zimmerman, Githurai, Ruaka, Banana Hill, Two Rivers, Village Market and Pride Lands — and across Kiambu, Thika, Juja, Ruiru, Kikuyu, Limuru and Ngong.

Beyond the capital we deliver to Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyeri, Machakos, Athi River, Kitengela, Kajiado, Naivasha, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kisii, Migori, Homa Bay, Siaya, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, Webuye, Kitale, Nandi Hills, Iten, Kapenguria, Embu, Meru, Chuka, Kerugoya, Murang’a, Othaya, Nyahururu, Nanyuki, Maralal, Isiolo, Marsabit, Moyale, Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, Lodwar, Kitui, Mwingi, Makueni, Emali, Kibwezi, Voi, Taveta, Wundanyi, Mariakani, Diani, Ukunda, Kilifi, Watamu, Malindi, Lamu and Hola. At two tablets a day a bottle runs for a long time, so tell us the pack size you want and we will work out how many months that covers before you order.

Across Africa, ask us before you order. We have sent orders to Uganda, Tanzania, Somaliland and as far as Malawi, and we will quote for Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and the rest of the continent. Shellfish and bovine-derived ingredients occasionally need an import declaration, and this formula contains both, so tell us the destination and we will confirm the paperwork before the parcel leaves us.

Living abroad? Order from wherever you are and we deliver to your family here in Kenya. Kenyans in the UK, the United States, Canada, South Africa and the Gulf order from us regularly for parents and relatives at home. A joint supplement is a sensible thing to send, because the benefit builds over months and a steady supply matters far more than a single bottle. Two tablets a day is also the easiest regimen to keep up with. Tell us who it is for, how many months you want covered, and whether they have a shellfish allergy or avoid beef, and we will set up the repeat.

Why Buy Your OsteoMove from HealthAlone Kenya?

HealthAlone is a pharmacist-led health ecosystem licensed by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, and our stock is original, sealed and correctly stored. Kahawa Sukari is a real counter with real pharmacists behind it.

Our pharmacists will flag the shellfish and the bovine chondroitin before you pay, show you the shellfish-free or plant-derived option when that is the right answer, read you the amounts and say plainly which parts of the formula are doing the work, check it against warfarin, against any surgery you have booked and against your diabetes if you have it, and tell you honestly how long to give it. Our doctor is here too if you would rather have the whole question looked at properly.

It is one more step in our vision: building Africa’s most trusted health ecosystem, accessible to everyone, everywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are DHA drops used for?

DHA stands for docosahexaenoic acid. It is one of the two long-chain omega-3s the body cannot make in useful quantities and has to take from the diet, it is found in oily fish, and it is concentrated in the brain and in the retina of the eye. That is why DHA rather than EPA is the omega-3 that comes up when a paediatrician talks about a small child.

How much of the DHA drops should I give my baby?

Please let our doctor set it rather than estimating, and bring the bottle in with you. A dose for an infant or a toddler is worked out from age and weight, it differs from a scaled-down adult amount, and it belongs with a professional rather than with a dropper and a label. Our doctor is here at the pharmacy, can weigh your child and settle it in one visit, and you will leave with the amount written down. If your own paediatrician has already set an amount, bring that in and we will match it exactly.

From what age can a child have it?

That is part of the same conversation and we would rather have it with you than put a number here. Bring your child’s age and weight to the counter, and tell us if they are under six months or exclusively breastfed or on formula, because infant formula is already fortified and breast milk carries DHA from the mother’s own diet. It is entirely possible the answer is that your child is already getting enough, and if so we will say so.

How do I give the drops?

Shake the bottle well first, because an oil suspension separates between uses. Then use the dropper that came with the bottle, never a kitchen spoon and never another product’s dropper, since droppers are calibrated differently and the difference on a child-sized dose is large. Give it straight or mix it into milk, juice or a spoonful of food, with a feed or a meal rather than on an empty stomach.

Will it make my child smarter or do better at school?

No. DHA is a nutrient rather than a shortcut. A growing child needs it like iron or calcium, and giving a child what they need is worth doing for its own sake. Promises about intelligence or school performance go beyond what anyone can support, and a shop making them is telling you something about itself rather than about the product. If you are worried about something specific in your child’s development, that deserves proper assessment and our doctor is here.

Is it safe for infants?

At an amount a doctor has set, DHA is a nutrient rather than a medicine and it is given to small children routinely. The things worth settling first are the amount, your child’s age and weight, any fish allergy in the family, and what else your child already takes. That is a short conversation at our counter and it is exactly the sort of thing a pharmacy is for.

Does it contain fish?

The DHA in drops of this kind comes from either fish oil or algae, and the two matter differently for a child with any allergy history. Ask us to read the label with you before the first drop, and tell us if there is any history of fish allergy in your child or in close family.

Can I mix it into a bottle of milk?

Yes, that is one of the reasons to choose drops. Mix it into milk, juice or food, or give it straight. Best to avoid a full bottle a child may leave unfinished, since the amount they actually had becomes a guess — a small amount of milk, or straight into the mouth, is easier to be sure about.

Can my child take it alongside a multivitamin?

Bring both in and let us add them up. Children’s multivitamins, infant drops and fortified formula all overlap, and the total matters far more for a small child than for an adult. It is a one-minute check at the counter and worth doing before you start rather than after.

How long should my child take it for?

That is a question for our doctor at the point they set the amount, because it depends on why your child is taking it. We would rather review it with you than have you continue indefinitely on an amount set months ago, so come back and see us and we will look at it together.

What if my child will not take it?

Come and tell us. Mixing it into something they already like usually solves it, and there are other formats and other products. A supplement a child refuses is one that sits in a cupboard, so there is little sense persevering with a fight when an alternative will do. For an older child, a flavoured syrup dosed by age often works where drops do not.
