What Animal Parade Multivitamin Does
Animal Parade multivitamin helps your child’s bones grow and develop normally and supports their cognitive development, in two animal-shaped chewables a day for children 2 years and over.
Those two things are worth separating from the general promises on most children’s vitamin boxes, because they are specific recognised benefits for children rather than adult claims borrowed downwards. The vitamin D in a daily serving is twice the daily reference amount, the iron is 5 mg and the iodine is 100 mcg, and each of those three has a recognised role in a growing child. There are 16 vitamins and 8 minerals in all.
Please Read This Before You Buy: It Contains Iron
We would rather lead with this than bury it, because it is the single most important thing about any children’s multivitamin that contains iron.
Each two-tablet serving contains 5 mg of iron. Iron is in here deliberately and for good reason — it is one of the three nutrients carrying this product’s recognised children’s benefits. It is also the reason the bottle needs treating differently from a jar of sweets.
The manufacturer’s own warning, in their words: accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6. Keep this product out of reach of children. In case of accidental overdose, call a physician or a poison control centre immediately.
What that means in a Kenyan home. These are fruit-flavoured, animal-shaped and pleasant to chew, which is exactly why children take them willingly and exactly why a bottle must live on a high shelf or in a locked cupboard rather than on a kitchen counter or a bedside table. Give the daily dose yourself rather than leaving the bottle where a child can help themselves. If you think your child has taken more than their dose, do not wait to see whether they seem unwell — ring us, or go to the nearest hospital.
What Is in Two Chewables
From the manufacturer’s panel. The reference values below are the adult daily amounts, which is how nutrient claims are measured even on a children’s product.
The ones that comfortably clear their thresholds: vitamin C 60 mg, vitamin D 10 mcg, vitamin E 20 mg, thiamine 1.5 mg, riboflavin 1.7 mg, niacin 20 mg, vitamin B6 2 mg, vitamin B12 6 mcg, biotin 50 mcg, pantothenic acid 10 mg, iodine 100 mcg, iron 5 mg and zinc 3 mg.
Vitamin A, 1,500 mcg RAE, and it is all beta carotene. This matters more than it looks. The upper limits that apply to vitamin A in children apply to the preformed kind, retinol; beta carotene is the plant form your child’s body converts as it needs, and it sits outside that limit. A page showing 500% of a toddler’s reference value for vitamin A looks alarming until you know which form it is, and this is the reassuring one.
The ones present in small amounts: calcium 20 mg, magnesium 10 mg, folate 17 mcg, copper and manganese. These are trace inclusions rather than meaningful contributions, and we would rather say so. In particular, do not treat this as your child’s calcium. 20 mg is a fiftieth of an adult daily reference amount.
And the whole foods: spirulina, carrot, broccoli, spinach, rice bran, papaya, mango, rose hips, West Indian cherry, pineapple and apple, with lemon bioflavonoids. There is also 2 g of added sugar per serving, from cane sugar and fructose, which is what makes them taste like something a child will accept.
The Benefits It Genuinely Carries
Three of these are specific to children, which is unusual and worth knowing.
Vitamin D contributes to the normal growth and development of bone in children. At 10 mcg a serving, twice the adult daily reference amount, this one is comfortably met.
Iron contributes to the normal cognitive development of children. The 5 mg is what carries it.
Iodine contributes to the normal growth of children. 100 mcg a serving.
And a long list of general ones across the B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc: normal energy-yielding metabolism, normal functioning of the immune system, normal function of the nervous system, reduction of tiredness and fatigue, protection of cells from oxidative stress, normal red blood cell formation and normal psychological function. A multivitamin at these levels earns a great many recognised benefits, and naming them beats calling the product complete.
How It Compares with the Other Animal Parade Products
We carry three and they do different jobs, so here is the honest placement.
This is the everyday one. Sixteen vitamins and eight minerals, the three children’s growth and development benefits, and iron.
If zinc is specifically what you want, an 8 mg zinc lozenge for children carries far more zinc than this multivitamin’s 3 mg — please read the dose and age guidance on that page carefully before you buy it, and ask us.
And if you were looking at the immune product, the Animal Parade immune chewable is a different formula again. Our pharmacist will tell you plainly which one your child actually needs, and often the answer is this one on its own.
How to Give It
Two chewable tablets once daily for children 2 years and over, which is the manufacturer’s own instruction. For a child under 2, please talk to our pharmacist or our doctor first rather than halving a tablet.
Give them with or after food, and let a younger child chew sitting down rather than running about. At two a day a 90-tablet bottle covers 45 days.
If your child already takes another vitamin, a fortified drink or a separate zinc or iron supplement, bring the labels in and let our pharmacist add them up with you. Stacking children’s supplements is the commonest way a child ends up over an upper limit, and it is easily avoided.
Is Animal Parade Multivitamin Right for Your Child?
- It contains iron, so storage is not optional. High shelf or locked cupboard, dose given by an adult, and never left where a younger sibling can reach it. Accidental iron overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6.
- If your child already takes any other supplement. Please bring the labels to the counter so our pharmacist can add up the iron, zinc and vitamin A across everything rather than guessing.
- If your child is under 2. Ask our pharmacist or our doctor first. There is no instruction on the box for that age and we would rather give you one that fits your child.
- Do not rely on it for calcium. 20 mg a serving is a trace amount. If calcium is your concern, ask us — we stock products made for that job.
- If your child has a medical condition or takes any medicine. Please speak to our doctor before starting a daily supplement, and keep giving whatever has been prescribed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Animal Parade multivitamin contain iron?
Yes — 5 mg per two-tablet serving, and it is the most important thing to know before you buy. The manufacturer’s own warning is that accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6. Keep the bottle well out of reach, give the dose yourself rather than leaving it out, and if you think your child has taken extra, ring us or go to the nearest hospital without waiting for symptoms.
What age is it for, and how many tablets?
Two chewable tablets once daily, for children 2 years and over. For a child under 2 please speak to our pharmacist or our doctor rather than halving a tablet, because there is no instruction on the box for that age.
What does it actually help with?
Three benefits here are specific to children: vitamin D contributes to the normal growth and development of bone in children, iron contributes to their normal cognitive development, and iodine contributes to their normal growth. Beyond those, the B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc carry recognised roles in energy metabolism, immune function, the nervous system and protecting cells from oxidative stress.
Is 500% of the vitamin A reference value safe for a toddler?
Yes, and the form is why. The upper limits for vitamin A in children apply to preformed vitamin A — retinol. All the vitamin A here is beta carotene, the plant form the body converts as it needs it, which does not carry the same concern. We mention it because the percentage looks alarming on a label and the explanation rarely appears next to it.
Can I use it as my child’s calcium?
No. There is 20 mg of calcium in a serving, which is about a fiftieth of an adult daily reference amount — a trace inclusion rather than a contribution. If calcium is what you are after, ask our pharmacist and we will show you something made for it.
My child already takes another vitamin. Is that a problem?
It can be, and it is the commonest way a child ends up over a safe upper limit. Please bring the labels of everything they take to the counter and our pharmacist will add up the iron, zinc and vitamin A across the lot. It takes a couple of minutes and it is worth doing properly.
How much sugar is in it?
2 g of added sugar per two-tablet serving, from cane sugar and fructose. That is what makes them taste like something a child will actually accept. There are no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.
Is it suitable for a child with allergies?
The manufacturer states it is free from milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame. Please still read the label on your own box, and if your child has a diagnosed allergy bring it to our pharmacist before the first dose.
How long does a bottle last?
At two tablets a day, a 90-tablet bottle covers 45 days. Please check the count on your own box, since this product is also made in a larger size.
Is it vegetarian?
The whole-food base is plant material throughout — spirulina, carrot, broccoli, spinach, rice bran and fruits — and the vitamin D in the formulation we have verified is the vegan D3 form. If this matters for your household, ask us to check the specific box before you buy.
