Quest Bone Life Tabs 60’s

Bone Life helps keep your bones and teeth working normally, supplying calcium, magnesium, vitamin D3, vitamin K2, zinc and copper in a tablet taken with food. All six have a recognised role in maintaining normal bone, and the choice between one tablet and two is worth making deliberately: two bring the calcium to a full daily reference intake, while one suits anyone already getting calcium from their diet. Ask our pharmacist which of the two fits you, and tell us about any warfarin or separate zinc supplement you take.

Bone Life, Six Bone Nutrients in One Tablet

Bone Life helps keep your bones and teeth working normally, supplying calcium, magnesium, vitamin D3, vitamin K2, zinc and copper together in a single tablet taken with food. Sixty tablets to a pack, from Quest.

Six nutrients, each with a recognised role in bone, and the amounts printed in full so you can see what you are getting. The one decision this product asks you to make is whether to take one tablet a day or two, and that answer is worth getting right rather than guessing. Here is what each nutrient does, how the two doses compare, and which suits whom.

What Bone Life Does, Nutrient by Nutrient

Each of the six carries an approved European health claim, and five of those claims are about bone itself.

  • Calcium, 400mg per tablet. Needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, and contributes to normal muscle function, normal neurotransmission and normal blood clotting. This is the mineral your skeleton is built from.
  • Magnesium, 150mg. Contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to normal muscle and nervous system function, and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Around half the magnesium in your body is held in bone.
  • Vitamin D3, 500 IU or 12.5 micrograms. Contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium, to normal blood calcium levels and to the maintenance of normal bones, teeth and muscle function. This is the nutrient that lets the calcium in.
  • Vitamin K2, 35 micrograms. Contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, and it works at a different stage from the other two.
  • Zinc, 10mg. Contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, to normal immune function and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
  • Copper, 500 micrograms. Contributes to the maintenance of normal connective tissues, which is the framework the minerals are laid down on.

Calcium alone asks a great deal of the body. It has to be absorbed from the gut, carried in the blood and then deposited in bone. Vitamin D handles the absorption, vitamin K2 matters for the deposition, magnesium and zinc each play their own structural part, and copper looks after the connective framework underneath. Six nutrients covering the whole sequence is a more complete answer than a calcium tablet on its own.

How to Take Bone Life, and Whether to Take One Tablet or Two

One or two tablets daily, with food, swallowed with water. The label allows either, and the difference between them is real, so here is what each gives you.

Two tablets bring the calcium to 800mg, a full daily reference intake, with magnesium at 300mg, vitamin D3 at 1000 IU, vitamin K2 at 70 micrograms, zinc at 20mg and copper at 1000 micrograms. This is the dose for someone whose diet is light on dairy, which describes a great many adults in Kenyan cities, and for anyone a doctor has advised to cover their calcium properly.

One tablet gives half of all of that, which suits someone who already eats dairy regularly and wants to top up rather than replace. It also makes a pack last two months instead of one.

Our pharmacist will settle it with you in a couple of minutes, and the thing that decides it is usually how much dairy, small fish or leafy greens are in your week. If you take two, split them between two meals rather than taking both together: calcium absorbs better in smaller amounts.

Take them with food. Much of the calcium here is calcium carbonate, which your stomach acid converts before absorption, and the vitamin D3 and K2 are both fat-soluble. A meal helps all three.

Leave about four hours between Bone Life and certain medicines. Calcium binds thyroxine, iron tablets and several antibiotics in the gut, so taken together the medicine absorbs poorly. Four hours apart solves it, and our pharmacist will work out the timing if you bring your list.

Why Vitamin K2 Belongs Here

Calcium and vitamin D between them get calcium absorbed and into the bloodstream. Vitamin K2 matters for what happens next, because it activates the proteins involved in binding calcium into bone. A calcium tablet without it leaves that last step to chance, and it is precisely the stage this formula adds over a plain calcium and vitamin D product.

Vitamin K2 is also the nutrient hardest to get from a normal diet. Vitamin K1 is abundant in green leafy vegetables, but K2 appears mainly in fermented foods and certain animal products, and it is the form with the bone claim behind it. Thirty-five micrograms a tablet is a meaningful amount, and at two tablets it is a generous one.

Who This Suits

Adults past fifty, when bone turnover shifts and dietary calcium starts to matter more than it did. Women after the menopause, for the same reason, more sharply. Anyone whose diet is light on dairy, whether by preference, by lactose intolerance or by cost. People who want the K2 and copper that simpler calcium tablets leave out. Anyone who would rather buy one formula than assemble four bottles. And anyone who wants the flexibility of a one-or-two-tablet dose, because a pack can be a month or two months depending on what you need.

Is Bone Life Right for You?

A few things to settle with our pharmacist first. It takes a couple of minutes at the counter.

  • If you take warfarin or another vitamin K antagonist, speak to your doctor before you start. This tablet contains vitamin K2 and warfarin works by acting against vitamin K. The amount is modest, and what matters is keeping your intake steady with your INR monitored while you settle in. Your doctor should make that call.
  • Count your zinc if you take anything else containing it. Two tablets a day supply 20mg, which sits below the daily upper level set for adults but leaves little room above it. Multivitamins, immune formulas and cold remedies commonly carry zinc, so bring us the list.
  • Add up the calcium and vitamin D already in your cupboard. Bone formulas, joint supplements and multivitamins frequently carry both, and several of ours do. We will total it with you in a minute.
  • Keep four hours between this and thyroxine, iron tablets or antibiotics. Calcium binds all three in the gut, and the spacing solves it completely.
  • If you have kidney disease, or a history of kidney stones or high blood calcium, check with your doctor first. These are the situations where a daily calcium supplement needs supervising rather than self-managing.

Storing It

Keep the pack tightly closed in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, below 25 degrees, and out of reach of children. A cupboard rather than a windowsill or the shelf above the cooker. Tablets take in moisture from humid air, so leave any desiccant sachet where it is and close the pack properly between doses. At one tablet a day a pack runs two months, so check the expiry date against how you plan to take it.

Where to Buy Bone Life in Kenya

Order online and we deliver countrywide, or collect from our pharmacy at Kahawa Sukari Shopping Center, Nairobi. Beyond the capital we deliver to Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyeri, Machakos, Athi River, Kitengela, Kajiado, Naivasha, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kisii, Migori, Homa Bay, Siaya, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, Webuye, Kitale, Nandi Hills, Iten, Kapenguria, Embu, Meru, Chuka, Kerugoya, Murang’a, Othaya, Nyahururu, Nanyuki, Maralal, Isiolo, Marsabit, Moyale, Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, Lodwar, Kitui, Mwingi, Makueni, Emali, Kibwezi, Voi, Taveta, Wundanyi, Mariakani, Diani, Ukunda, Kilifi, Watamu, Malindi, Lamu and Hola. A pack is one or two months depending on your dose, so most customers outside Nairobi order two at a time and we pack them to travel together.

Across Africa, ask us before you order. We have sent orders to Uganda, Tanzania, Somaliland and as far as Malawi, and we will quote for Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and the rest of the continent. Some countries cap the calcium or vitamin D permitted in a food supplement, so tell us the destination and we will confirm the paperwork before the parcel leaves us.

Living abroad? Order from wherever you are and we deliver to your family here in Kenya. Kenyans in the UK, the United States, Canada, South Africa and the Gulf order from us regularly for parents and relatives at home. A bone formula is a sensible thing to send, because the benefit builds over seasons and a steady supply matters more than a single pack. Tell us who it is for, how many months you want covered, and whether they take warfarin, and we will set up the repeat.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bone Life used for?

It is a daily bone support tablet for adults. It supplies calcium, magnesium, vitamin D3, vitamin K2, zinc and copper, five of which contribute to the maintenance of normal bones and the sixth to the maintenance of normal connective tissues.

What is in Bone Life, and how much?

Per tablet: calcium 400mg, magnesium 150mg, vitamin D3 500 IU (12.5 micrograms), vitamin K2 35 micrograms, zinc 10mg and copper 500 micrograms. At two tablets a day that doubles to calcium 800mg, magnesium 300mg, vitamin D3 1000 IU, vitamin K2 70 micrograms, zinc 20mg and copper 1000 micrograms.

Should I take one tablet or two?

Two if your diet is light on dairy, because that brings the calcium to a full daily reference intake. One if you already eat dairy regularly and want to top up rather than replace. Our pharmacist will settle it with you in a couple of minutes, and it usually comes down to how much dairy, small fish and leafy greens are in your week.

How long does a pack last?

Sixty tablets, so one month at two a day or two months at one a day.

Why does a bone supplement contain vitamin K2?

Calcium and vitamin D get calcium absorbed and into the bloodstream. Vitamin K2 matters for the step after that, activating the proteins involved in binding calcium into bone. It is also the nutrient hardest to get from an ordinary diet, since it comes mainly from fermented foods rather than from vegetables.

Can I take Bone Life with warfarin?

Speak to your doctor first. Warfarin works by acting against vitamin K, and this tablet contains vitamin K2. The usual approach is a steady intake with your INR monitored while you settle in, but that decision belongs with your doctor.

How much zinc is in it, and is that a lot?

Ten milligrams per tablet, so 20mg at two tablets a day. That sits below the daily upper level set for adults but leaves little room above it, so tell us about any multivitamin, immune formula or cold remedy you also take, since those commonly contain zinc.

Does it matter when I take it alongside my other medicines?

Yes. Calcium binds thyroxine, iron tablets and several antibiotics in the gut, so leave about four hours between them. Bring us your list and our pharmacist will set the timing with you.

Can I take Bone Life with my other calcium or vitamin D supplement?

Tell us what the others are first. The total across everything is what matters, and several products on our shelves carry calcium, vitamin D or both. We will add it up with you in a minute.

How long before Bone Life makes a difference?

Bone responds over seasons rather than weeks and there is nothing to feel day to day. Take it steadily and judge it by what your doctor measures rather than by how you feel.
