OLIMP VEGGIE PROTEIN COMPLEX, 500g

Olimp Veggie Protein Complex helps you build and hold on to the muscle you are training for, because protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass, to the maintenance of muscle mass and to the maintenance of normal bones. This plant protein gives 20 g in a 28 g serving from pea, brown rice and pumpkin seed, with no dairy, soy or egg in the recipe, and a 500 g tub is about 17 servings. It is made on a shared site, so please ask our pharmacist first if you have a diagnosed food allergy.

Description

Olimp Veggie Protein Complex is a plant protein that helps you hold on to the muscle you are training for and build more of it, which is the whole reason to keep a tub in the kitchen. The protein comes from pea, brown rice and pumpkin seed, giving 20 g of protein in a 28 g serving, sweetened with xylitol and stevia rather than sugar, and a 500 g tub holds about 17 servings.

What This Plant Protein Does for Your Muscles, and for Your Bones

Protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass. Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass. Protein contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. Those three are the properly established benefits of any protein, and this tub qualifies for all of them comfortably: at 70 g of protein in every 100 g of powder, close to three quarters of what you are drinking is protein.

The bone one deserves a moment, because almost nobody selling protein mentions it. If you are over 40, or you are a woman approaching or past menopause, protein does as much for your skeleton as it does for your arms, and that is a reason to drink it on days you are not training at all.

Read This Before You Buy It for an Allergy

This powder contains no milk, no soy and no egg as ingredients. But it is made on a site that also handles milk, eggs, soy, peanuts, cereals containing gluten, fish, crustaceans and molluscs, so traces of those can carry over.

That distinction matters enormously and it is the difference between two kinds of customer. If you avoid dairy because it upsets your stomach, or you are vegan by choice, this is a sound buy and the traces are irrelevant to you. If you have a diagnosed allergy to milk, soy, nuts or any of the others — the kind where a reaction means antihistamines or an adrenaline pen — please come and talk to our pharmacist before you buy this one, and we will help you find a protein made on a dedicated line instead. We would rather lose the sale than have you react to a shake.

Pea, Rice and Pumpkin: Why This Plant Protein Is a Blend

A single plant protein is usually short of one or two of the amino acids your muscles need most, and that is the whole reason this one is a blend of three. Pea protein runs low in methionine; rice protein runs low in lysine. Put them together and each one covers the other’s gap, which is why serious plant proteins are blends and single-source ones are cheaper. Pumpkin seed protein adds to the mix and brings the mineral content up.

So the blend here is doing real work rather than filling the label with ingredients. If you have moved off whey and worried about whether a plant protein can keep up, this is the part that answers it.

How to Mix It, and How Far a Tub Goes

One serving is 28 g, which is half a scoop, in 250 ml of water. Use 200 ml if you like it stronger and 300 ml if you like it thinner. Drink it soon after mixing; the xanthan gum thickens it if it stands.

One or two servings a day, whenever suits you — between meals, or after training. A 500 g tub is about 17 servings, so one serving a day makes it a little over two weeks and two servings a day makes it just over a week. Tell us how many weeks you want covered and we will work out the order.

It also goes into a smoothie, into plant milk, or into porridge, which is worth knowing if you are drinking it for your bones rather than after a session and a cold shake at breakfast holds no appeal.

What Is Actually in the Tub

Eighty-two per cent protein blend from pea, brown rice and pumpkin seed. Xylitol and steviol glycosides from the stevia leaf as the sweeteners, so no sugar to speak of. Fructooligosaccharides, which are a soluble fibre. Xanthan gum to stop it separating. Flavouring, and reduced-fat cocoa in the chocolate version.

Two things on that list are worth knowing before your first shake. Xylitol and fructooligosaccharides are both gentle on blood sugar and both have a laxative effect in quantity, so build up to two servings a day rather than starting there. And a serving carries about half a gram of salt, which is ordinary for a protein powder but worth a word with our pharmacist if you are taking anything for your blood pressure.

If you are buying protein for your joints, your skin or your hair rather than your muscles, our multi collagen protein is the one built for that, and our pharmacist will tell you which of the two fits what you are after.

Which Flavour Are You Getting?

This tub comes in chocolate and in neutral, and they are genuinely different purchases. Chocolate is for drinking in water on its own. Neutral has no flavouring and no cocoa, which makes it the one to buy if it is going into a smoothie, into porridge or into cooking, where chocolate would take over.

Ask us which we have in stock before you order, or tell us which you want and we will set it aside. Neutral also carries a little more fibre than the chocolate.

Is Olimp Veggie Protein Complex Right for You?

It suits anyone training who wants protein without dairy, anyone vegan or vegetarian, anyone whose stomach objects to whey, and anyone over 40 wanting to protect muscle and bone. It is one of the better plant blends because of the three-protein mix.

Please speak to us first if any of these describes you:

  • You have a diagnosed allergy to milk, soy, nuts, egg, gluten, fish or shellfish. The shared production site matters for you, and our pharmacist will find you an alternative.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding. Please see our doctor before using it.
  • You are buying it for a child or teenager. Please see our doctor first.
  • You have kidney disease, or you have been told to watch your protein. Bring your last results to the counter.
  • You take medicines for your blood pressure. Ask our pharmacist about the salt content.
  • You keep a dog. Xylitol is seriously toxic to dogs even in small amounts, so keep the tub shut and off the floor.

And if you are simply not sure whether you need a protein powder at all, ask our pharmacist. Plenty of people eat enough protein already and would do better spending the money elsewhere, and we will tell you so.

Olimp Veggie Protein Complex: Your Questions Answered

What is Olimp Veggie Protein Complex?

A plant protein powder made from pea, brown rice and pumpkin seed protein, giving 20 g of protein in a 28 g serving. Protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass, to the maintenance of muscle mass and to the maintenance of normal bones. A 500 g tub holds about 17 servings.

How much protein is in a serving?

20 g of protein in a 28 g serving, which is half a scoop. The powder is 70 g protein per 100 g, so close to three quarters of what you are drinking is protein.

Is it suitable for vegans and vegetarians?

Yes. The protein is entirely from plants, it is sweetened with xylitol and stevia, and there is no dairy, egg or soy among the ingredients.

I have a dairy or soy allergy. Can I use it?

Please talk to our pharmacist first. There is no milk or soy in the recipe, but the powder is made on a site that also handles milk, eggs, soy, peanuts, gluten cereals, fish and shellfish, so traces can carry over. If your reaction is a stomach upset, this is fine. If you have a diagnosed allergy that needs antihistamines or an adrenaline pen, we will find you a protein made on a dedicated line instead.

How do I mix it?

One serving of 28 g, half a scoop, in 250 ml of water. Use 200 ml if you want it stronger or 300 ml for thinner. One or two servings a day, between meals or after training.

How long will a tub last?

About 17 servings in 500 g. One a day makes it a little over two weeks; two a day makes it just over a week. Tell us how many weeks you want covered and we will work out the order.

Which flavour should I buy?

Chocolate if you are drinking it in water on its own, neutral if it is going into a smoothie, porridge or cooking. Ask us which we have in stock and we will set it aside for you.

Can a plant protein really match whey?

A single plant protein usually falls short of one or two amino acids, which is where the blend earns its place: pea runs low in methionine, rice runs low in lysine, and together they cover each other. That is why good plant proteins are blends.

Will it help me lose weight?

We are not able to tell you that. What protein is established for is growing and maintaining muscle and maintaining normal bones. A protein shake can make a meal easier to control because it is filling, but swapping food for shakes is not a plan, and our doctor can go through a sensible one with you.

Will it upset my stomach?

It can if you start at two servings a day. Both the xylitol and the fructooligosaccharide fibre have a laxative effect in quantity, so start with one serving for the first few days and build up.

Is it safe to take every day?

For most adults a serving or two a day alongside food is ordinary. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for children, and if you have kidney disease or have been told to watch your protein, bring your last results in and our doctor will look at them with you.

Can I take it with creatine?

Yes, and the two do different jobs, so many people take both. Our pure creatine monohydrate is the product in this category with an authorised performance claim behind it at 3 g a day. Tell our pharmacist what you are training for and we will set out a simple order.

Does it contain sugar or artificial sweeteners?

Under half a gram of sugar in a serving. The sweetness comes from xylitol and from steviol glycosides, which are extracted from the stevia leaf.
