Lamberts Osteoguard, 500 mg of Calcium with Four Bone Nutrients
Lamberts Osteoguard helps keep your bones and teeth working normally, supplying 500 mg of calcium in one tablet alongside magnesium, vitamin D3, vitamin K1 and boron. 90 coated tablets, 1 to 2 a day.
What makes this formula unusual is how much of it is doing bone work: four of the five nutrients carry a recognised bone benefit in their own right, not just the calcium. Below you will find every amount, what each part contributes, the claim this product earns that very few calcium supplements reach, how many tablets to take, and the one question we must ask you before you buy.
What a Tablet Supplies
Per coated tablet, from the manufacturer’s own panel, with the two-tablet figures alongside.
- Calcium 500 mg, or 1,000 mg at two tablets. Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, and contributes to normal muscle function, normal neurotransmission and normal blood clotting. At 500 mg in a single tablet this is one of the more generous calcium amounts on our shelf, and the figure matters for the reason in the next section.
- Magnesium 125 mg, or 250 mg at two. Magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to normal muscle and nervous system function and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Roughly half the magnesium in the body is held in bone, which is why it belongs here.
- Vitamin D3 5 mcg (200 IU), or 10 mcg (400 IU) at two. Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium, to the maintenance of normal bones, teeth and muscle function, and to the normal function of the immune system. A full reference intake in one tablet, and the nutrient that lets the calcium in.
- Vitamin K1 38 mcg, or 76 mcg at two. Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and to normal blood clotting. This is the quiet differentiator: most calcium supplements stop at calcium, magnesium and vitamin D, and vitamin K has a bone claim of its own that they simply leave on the table. It is also the reason for the one question in the caution section below, and if vitamin K is something you have been told to keep steady, we carry a calcium, magnesium and boron tablet without it.
- Boron 1.5 mg, or 3 mg at two. Long associated with bone and mineral metabolism. We will be straight with you that boron carries no recognised claim at any amount, so we present it as what the formulator put in rather than as a benefit we stand behind.
- Suitable for vegans, and free of fish and shellfish. Also made without wheat, barley, soya, egg, milk, lactose, nuts, sulphites, celery, yeast and gluten.
- 90 coated oval tablets, which at 1 to 2 a day is a 45 to 90 day supply.
Four of the five nutrients carry a bone claim: calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and vitamin K. That is a more complete answer than a plain calcium tablet gives, and at these amounts it is a genuine one rather than a label decoration.
The Claim This Product Earns
Calcium helps to reduce the loss of bone mineral in post-menopausal women, and low bone mineral density is a risk factor for osteoporotic bone fractures. That is a recognised claim with a strict condition attached: the product must supply at least 400 mg of calcium per serving, and it applies to women aged 50 and over.
Osteoguard supplies 500 mg of calcium in one tablet, so it clears that threshold on a single tablet. Very few products on any pharmacy shelf in this market reach it, and most that do never mention it. If you are a woman over 50 and this is the reason you are looking at a calcium supplement, that is the sentence worth reading twice.
One honest limitation while we are being precise. There is a second version of that claim covering calcium together with vitamin D, and it asks for at least 15 mcg of vitamin D as well as the 400 mg of calcium. Osteoguard gives 5 mcg per tablet and 10 mcg at two, so the calcium-and-vitamin-D version is out of reach here. If you want both halves of it, come and talk to us: adding a separate vitamin D3 1000 IU capsule gets you comfortably past 15 mcg, and our pharmacist will do the arithmetic with you rather than leaving you to guess.
How to Take Osteoguard
One or two tablets daily, with food. The manufacturer notes that two a day is particularly worth considering if your diet contains little dairy, or if you are of menopausal age. Let our pharmacist settle which with you and write it down.
If you take two, spread them across two separate meals. Calcium absorption tails off above roughly 500 mg taken at once, which is precisely why this tablet is built at 500 mg. Two tablets at two meals deliver meaningfully more than two together.
Judge it over seasons rather than weeks. Bone responds slowly and there is nothing to feel day to day.
Who This Suits
Women after the menopause, where the calcium amount earns the bone mineral claim on a single tablet. Adults past fifty generally, as bone turnover shifts. Anyone whose diet is light on dairy. Vegans and vegetarians, since this is one of very few complete bone formulas suiting a vegan diet. Anyone avoiding fish and shellfish. And anyone who would rather buy one well-built tablet than assemble four bottles.
Is Lamberts Osteoguard Right for You?
Five things to settle with our pharmacist, and the first is the one we must ask everybody.
- IF YOU TAKE WARFARIN OR ANY OTHER ANTICOAGULANT, DO NOT TAKE THIS EXCEPT ON A DOCTOR’S ADVICE. That is the manufacturer’s own instruction and we will not soften it. Osteoguard contains vitamin K, which is the nutrient warfarin works against, so a steady change in your vitamin K intake can shift your INR. If a blood thinner is on your list, speak to the doctor managing it, or to ours, before you start — and if you have been told to keep your vitamin K intake steady, this is exactly the sort of product that conversation was about. A calcium, magnesium and boron tablet without vitamin K is the usual alternative and we stock it — ask us.
- Let us set the number of tablets with you. One or two, depending on your diet and your age, and two if dairy is scarce or you are of menopausal age. We will write it down so you have it at home.
- If you have kidney disease, or a history of kidney stones or high blood calcium, speak to your doctor first, or to ours. These are the situations where a daily calcium supplement needs supervising, and the doctor already treating you should know you are taking it.
- Add up the calcium and vitamin D already in the house. Bone formulas, multivitamins and calcium syrups all carry both, and we have had customers taking two products at once without realising. Bring us the list or photograph the labels and our pharmacist will total them in a minute.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding? The manufacturer states the product is suitable in both, which is more than most bone formulas will say, and we would still rather our doctor confirmed the amount with you. That can be done the same visit.
Storing It
Keep the pot tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from light, and out of reach of children. A cupboard rather than a windowsill or the shelf above the cooker. The tablets are coated, which helps them tolerate a humid Nairobi kitchen better than an uncoated tablet would, but the cupboard is still the right place. Check the expiry against how long your pot will last once we have settled the daily number with you, since 90 tablets is anywhere between 45 and 90 days.

Across Africa, ask us before you order. We have sent orders to Uganda, Tanzania, Somaliland and as far as Malawi, and we will quote for Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and the rest of the continent. Shellfish and bovine-derived ingredients occasionally need an import declaration, and this formula contains both, so tell us the destination and we will confirm the paperwork before the parcel leaves us.
Living abroad? Order from wherever you are and we deliver to your family here in Kenya. Kenyans in the UK, the United States, Canada, South Africa and the Gulf order from us regularly for parents and relatives at home. A joint supplement is a sensible thing to send, because the benefit builds over months and a steady supply matters far more than a single bottle. Two tablets a day is also the easiest regimen to keep up with. Tell us who it is for, how many months you want covered, and whether they have a shellfish allergy or avoid beef, and we will set up the repeat.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Lamberts Osteoguard used for?
It is a daily bone supplement for adults. Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, magnesium and vitamin K each contribute to the maintenance of normal bones in their own right, and vitamin D3 contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of that calcium as well as to the maintenance of normal bones. Four bone nutrients in one coated tablet, plus boron.
What is in Osteoguard, and how much?
Per tablet: calcium 500 mg, magnesium 125 mg, vitamin D3 5 mcg which is 200 IU, vitamin K1 38 mcg and boron 1.5 mg. At two tablets that doubles to calcium 1,000 mg, magnesium 250 mg, vitamin D3 10 mcg, vitamin K1 76 mcg and boron 3 mg. There are 90 tablets in a pot.
Can I take it if I am on warfarin or another blood thinner?
Not without a doctor’s advice, and this is the manufacturer’s own instruction rather than our caution. Osteoguard contains vitamin K, which is the nutrient warfarin is designed to work against, so changing your vitamin K intake can shift your INR. Please speak to the doctor managing your anticoagulant, or to ours, before you start. If you would rather avoid the question entirely, we stock a calcium, magnesium and boron tablet with no vitamin K in it and our pharmacist will show you the comparison.
How many tablets should I take a day?
One or two with food. The manufacturer notes that two is particularly worth considering if your diet contains little dairy or if you are of menopausal age. Let our pharmacist settle it with you, and if you take two, spread them across two separate meals, because calcium absorption tails off above roughly 500 mg at a single sitting.
Is this suitable for osteoporosis?
Here is the accurate answer. Calcium helps to reduce the loss of bone mineral in post-menopausal women, and low bone mineral density is a risk factor for osteoporotic bone fractures. That recognised claim applies where a product supplies at least 400 mg of calcium per serving and the person is a woman aged 50 or over, and Osteoguard clears it on a single tablet at 500 mg. What that is not is a treatment: if you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, the supplement sits alongside whatever your doctor has prescribed rather than instead of it. Bring us your prescription list and our pharmacist will check the fit, and our doctor is here if you would rather discuss it properly.
Why does it contain vitamin K?
Because vitamin K carries a bone claim of its own: vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. Most calcium supplements stop at calcium, magnesium and vitamin D and leave that benefit out. It is a genuine point of difference, and it is also the reason for the anticoagulant question above.
Is it suitable for vegans and vegetarians?
Yes, both. The manufacturer states it is suitable for vegans, and it is made without wheat, barley, soya, egg, milk, lactose, nuts, sulphites, celery, fish, shellfish, yeast and gluten-containing ingredients. That makes it one of very few complete bone formulas we carry that suits a vegan diet or anyone avoiding fish and shellfish.
Can I take it during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
The manufacturer states the product is suitable during pregnancy and breastfeeding, which is more than most bone formulas will say. Even so, calcium needs change in both and the right amount is a medical judgement, so please let our doctor confirm it with you. Our doctor is here at the pharmacy and can see you the same visit.
Does it matter when I take it alongside my other medicines?
Yes. Calcium binds thyroxine, iron tablets and several antibiotics in the gut, so leave about four hours between them and the medicine will absorb normally. Bring us your list and our pharmacist will set the timing with you. The anticoagulant question above is separate and more important.
How much vitamin D does it give, and is that enough?
5 mcg per tablet, which is a full daily reference intake, or 10 mcg at two tablets. That is enough for vitamin D to carry its own bone, muscle and immune claims. If you want the version of the bone mineral claim that covers calcium together with vitamin D, that one asks for at least 15 mcg of vitamin D, which is beyond this tablet — a separate vitamin K2 and D3 capsule or a plain vitamin D3 will take you past it, and our pharmacist will add it up with you rather than leaving you to guess.
How long does a pot last, and how long before it helps?
90 tablets, so 45 to 90 days depending on whether you take one or two. On timing we would rather be honest: bone responds over seasons rather than weeks and there is nothing to feel day to day. Take it steadily and judge it by what your doctor measures rather than by how you feel.
