Xtone Forte Syrup 200ml
Xtone forte syrup supplies eleven vitamins and ten amino acids in a measured spoonful, and it is sold across East Africa and South Asia as a general tonic for appetite, recovery and periods of poor eating.
Most people arrive here with one of two questions: what it is used for, and whether it is safe in pregnancy. Both are answered here, and the second answer is the more important one. There is also a difference between the two halves of the ingredient list, one of which does real work and one of which does almost none, and knowing which is which changes what this bottle is worth to you.
What Is in Xtone Forte Syrup
The vitamins are the real content. The amino acids are present in trace amounts. Both are printed on the label with equal prominence, and they are not equal.
Each 15ml spoonful carries vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, the full B group including B12, vitamin C and folic acid, at amounts that genuinely contribute to a day’s intake. That is a proper multivitamin dose and it is what this syrup actually is.
The ten amino acids are measured in single-digit and low double-digit milligrams. L-leucine, the largest of the group at 18.3mg per spoonful, is an example: an adult needs it in grams, not milligrams. One egg contains roughly twice as much leucine as the entire bottle. The same holds for lysine, valine, isoleucine and the rest.
This is not a criticism of the product. It is a correction of what the product is. Buy it as a vitamin tonic, which it is and a decent one, and not as a source of amino acids, which it is not in any amount that matters.
Two Amounts Worth Knowing Before You Start
Folic acid. At the label dose of two spoonfuls a day this syrup provides 1500 micrograms of folic acid. The upper intake level for adults is 1000 micrograms a day from supplements. Above that, folic acid can correct the anaemia of vitamin B12 deficiency while leaving the deficiency itself untreated, and prolonged B12 deficiency causes nerve damage that does not fully reverse.
The syrup does contain B12, which reduces that risk. It does not remove it, and it matters most if you are over sixty, vegetarian or vegan, taking metformin long-term, or already on another supplement containing folic acid. Speak to our pharmacist before taking two spoonfuls daily for an extended period.
Vitamin A. Two spoonfuls a day provide 5000 international units. The adult ceiling for this form of vitamin A is 10000 international units a day, so the syrup alone sits comfortably below it. The arithmetic changes if you are also taking a multivitamin, a cod liver oil or a prenatal preparation, because they stack.
Is Xtone Forte Syrup Safe in Pregnancy?
Do not start it in pregnancy without asking your doctor or our pharmacist first, and the reason is vitamin A. This is a question people search for constantly and it deserves a direct answer rather than a disclaimer.
High intakes of preformed vitamin A in pregnancy are associated with birth defects, which is why prenatal vitamins are formulated carefully around it. Two spoonfuls of this syrup give 5000 international units before anything else you are taking is counted. Add a prenatal multivitamin and you may be higher than anyone intended.
The folic acid raises the opposite point. Pregnancy genuinely needs more folate, and 1500 micrograms is not dangerous in pregnancy in the way it can be in an older adult. But a prenatal preparation already contains folic acid, and doubling up while also doubling the vitamin A is the wrong way round.
If you are pregnant and looking for a tonic because you are tired or not eating well, bring what you are already taking and talk to us. There is almost certainly a better answer than this one, and it takes five minutes to find it.
Who It Suits
Adults and older children recovering from an illness, eating poorly, or going through a period where meals have become irregular. It is easy to swallow, it tastes of syrup rather than tablets, and a spoonful twice a day is simpler than a handful of capsules.
It suits somebody who wants a broad vitamin top-up in liquid form. It does not suit somebody looking for amino acid supplementation, athletic recovery or protein support, and it should not be the answer to unexplained tiredness or weight loss without somebody first finding out why.
How to Take It
One 15ml spoonful twice daily, or as your doctor directs. Take it with or after food. Use the measuring spoon or cap rather than a kitchen spoon, which can hold half as much again.
A 200ml bottle at two spoonfuls a day lasts about a week. That is worth knowing before you buy, because a tonic taken for a week is rarely long enough to judge and the cost over a month is four bottles rather than one.
Names That Get Confused With This One
Several syrups on this market have similar-sounding names and different contents. If a prescription or a relative told you to buy one of these, check the spelling on the label before you pay, because the vitamin content differs and so does the dose.
Bring the box, the strip or a photograph of what you were given and we will confirm which one it is. It is a short conversation and it prevents the most common mistake in this category.
Before You Start, Check These
Speak to our pharmacist first if any of these apply:
- Pregnancy or planning a pregnancy — because of the vitamin A. See above.
- Another multivitamin, prenatal preparation or cod liver oil — vitamin A and folic acid stack across products.
- Vitamin B12 deficiency, or a risk of it — over sixty, vegetarian, vegan, or on long-term metformin.
- Liver disease — vitamin A is stored in and processed by the liver.
- Diabetes — it is a syrup. Ask us about the sugar content before taking it twice daily.
- Children — the dose is not the adult dose. Ask, do not halve it by guesswork.
Side Effects
Uncommon and usually mild. Nausea or a full feeling if taken on an empty stomach, and occasionally a loose stool. The niacin in it can cause a brief warm flushing of the face and neck in some people, which is harmless and passes.
Stop and speak to us about persistent headache, blurred vision, or dry cracking skin and lips, which can accompany too much vitamin A over a long period.
Storing It
Keep the bottle tightly closed, below 30 degrees, out of direct sunlight, and away from the bathroom. Once opened, use it within the period stated on the carton. Keep it out of reach of children, because it tastes pleasant and a child will drink it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is xtone forte syrup used for?
It is a vitamin tonic. It supplies eleven vitamins in liquid form for adults and older children who are recovering from illness, eating poorly, or going through a period of irregular meals. It also lists ten amino acids, but those are present in amounts too small to contribute meaningfully.
Is xtone forte syrup safe in pregnancy?
Ask your doctor or our pharmacist before starting it. The reason is vitamin A: two spoonfuls a day give 5000 international units, and high preformed vitamin A in pregnancy is associated with birth defects. Combined with a prenatal multivitamin the total can climb higher than intended. There is usually a better option and we will help you find it.
What are the side effects?
Uncommon and mild. Nausea or fullness if taken on an empty stomach, occasionally a loose stool, and sometimes a brief warm flush of the face from the niacin. Persistent headache, blurred vision or dry cracking lips are worth telling us about, as they can accompany prolonged high vitamin A.
How much folic acid is in it?
750 micrograms per 15ml spoonful, so 1500 micrograms at the label dose of twice daily. The adult upper intake level from supplements is 1000 micrograms a day. It is not an emergency, but it is a reason to speak to us before taking it daily for months, particularly if you are over sixty, vegetarian or vegan, or on long-term metformin.
Does it really contain useful amino acids?
Not in useful amounts. The largest one, L-leucine, is 18.3mg per spoonful, and an adult needs leucine in grams. One egg contains roughly twice as much leucine as the whole bottle. Buy this as a vitamin tonic, which it is, rather than as an amino acid supplement.
How long does a bottle last?
About a week at the label dose of two spoonfuls a day. A month of continuous use is four bottles, which is worth working out before you start.
Can children take it?
Older children, at a dose we will confirm with you. Do not halve the adult dose by guesswork, and do not give it to a young child without asking, because vitamin A limits are much lower in children.
Can I take it with another multivitamin?
Check with us first. Vitamin A and folic acid both add up across products, and those are the two amounts in this syrup that are already near a ceiling.
Does it help with appetite?
People take it for that and B vitamins are involved in appetite and energy metabolism, so correcting a shortfall can help. If your appetite has dropped without an obvious reason, the cause needs finding rather than covering. Talk to us or to your doctor.
Is it a medicine or a supplement?
It is a food supplement, not a medicine, and it treats no disease. It supplies vitamins. Anything claiming that it treats a condition is overstating what a vitamin syrup does.
Is it suitable for diabetics?
Ask us before taking it twice daily. It is a syrup, and sugar content matters when something is taken every day.
