What Bioderma Measured, and on Whom
Here is the evidence, with the study described properly, because a percentage with nothing under it is worth very little.
Bioderma ran a study in Portugal in 2023 on 30 people aged 14 to 30 with mild to moderate acne and very dry skin, all of them already on treatment — either a topical retinoid or isotretinoin tablets. They used this cleanser twice a day for 28 days alongside their usual cream.
Straight away: 100% said their skin was gently cleansed, 100% said it felt soothed, 100% said it felt more comfortable and less tight, and 93.3% said it felt hydrated.
After 28 days: hydration measured up by 53.1%, and 90% said their skin felt soothed. Hydration was measured by instrument on 12 of them, 24 hours after the last wash, rather than being asked about.
And the finding to read carefully. Bioderma also report that 80% of the group had improved acne over those 28 days, with skin lipid levels preserved. Everybody in that study was on acne medication throughout, so the honest reading is that the cleanser kept their skin comfortable without getting in the way of the treatment that was doing the work. We are not going to tell you a face wash cleared anyone’s acne, and nor do Bioderma.
How to Use It
Morning, evening or both. Apply to wet skin, massage gently, rinse thoroughly and dry without rubbing. The last part matters more than it sounds — on skin that is already fragile from treatment, towel friction undoes a good deal of what a gentle wash achieves.
