Collagen Peptides Powder, Hydrolysed for Absorption
Collagen peptides powder helps your skin hold its moisture and its spring, and it eases the stiff, complaining knees that come with age or with hard training, taken as two tablespoons stirred into whatever you are already drinking.
It suits anyone watching their skin lose its bounce, people whose joints have started talking back after a run or a long day on their feet, and anybody who wants a clean protein with no flavour of its own. Collagen is the scaffolding your skin, tendons and cartilage are built on, and the body makes steadily less of it from the mid-twenties onward.
What Hydrolysed Means, and Why It Is the Whole Point
Collagen in its natural state is a long, tough molecule that the gut struggles with. Hydrolysing it breaks it into short chains called peptides, small enough to be absorbed and carried in the blood.
That is why the peptides in a powder reach your bloodstream, while the collagen in a bowl of bone soup largely stays in the gut. The peptides are what the research is done on, and they are what you are paying for.
What the Skin Research Shows
A systematic review and meta-analysis published in Nutrients in 2023 pooled 26 randomised controlled trials covering more than seventeen hundred people.
Hydrolysed collagen significantly improved skin hydration, with a pooled effect size of 0.63 and a confidence interval of 0.38 to 0.88, and skin elasticity, with an effect size of 0.72 and an interval of 0.40 to 1.03. Both results were strong statistically. Doses across the trials ran from under a gram to 12 grams daily, with most studies running eight to twelve weeks.
One honest note, because it is the kind of thing worth knowing before you buy: most of those trials used marine collagen, and this tub is bovine. The peptides that reach your blood are broadly similar, and bovine collagen is richer in the types found in skin, bone and tendon, but the bulk of the skin evidence was gathered on fish.
What the Joint Research Shows
A double-blind, placebo-controlled randomised trial published in 2025 gave one hundred and sixty adults 10 grams of hydrolysed collagen peptides a day for eight weeks.
Their WOMAC scores, the standard measure of joint pain, stiffness and function, fell from 53.7 at the start to 33.8 by week eight, significantly better than placebo from week four onward. Ankle function scores rose in parallel. Side effects were almost all mild, the commonest being a little nausea.
That trial used exactly 10 grams a day, which matters for the next section.
Why Ten Grams a Serving Matters
Two level tablespoons of this powder, 11 grams, supply 10 grams of hydrolysed bovine collagen and 10 grams of protein.
That lands precisely on the dose used in the joint trial, and at the upper end of the range in the skin meta-analysis. Plenty of collagen products on the market supply two or three grams a serving and leave the customer to wonder why nothing much happened. This one gives the amount the research was actually done at, which is the single most useful thing you can know about a collagen powder.
What Is in the Tub
Hydrolysed bovine collagen, and that is the entire ingredient list. Per serving: 10 grams of collagen, 10 grams of protein, 40 calories. Roughly 21 servings in a 227 gram tub.
It is made without yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, corn, milk, egg, fish, shellfish or tree nut ingredients, which makes it one of the easier protein supplements for somebody with allergies to take.
How to Take It
Mix two level tablespoons into water, juice, tea, coffee or a smoothie once a day. It dissolves in hot or cold liquid and has very little taste, so it disappears into morning chai as easily as into a glass of water.
There is no need to take it on an empty stomach or at any particular hour. The one rule that matters with collagen is consistency: the trials ran eight to twelve weeks, and that is the honest timescale.
Who This Collagen Peptides Powder Is For
Adults from the mid-thirties onward, when the body’s own collagen production has been declining for a decade. Runners, footballers, gym regulars and anyone whose knees have opinions. People working on their skin from the inside as well as with what they put on it. Anyone who wants a clean, almost tasteless protein to add to a drink. And people with food allergies who find most protein powders closed to them.
What to Expect
Give it eight to twelve weeks, which is how long the trials ran. Joint comfort tends to be noticed first, often from around week four in the research. Skin changes are slower and subtler, measured in the studies with instruments rather than mirrors, so expect a gradual difference in how your skin feels rather than a transformation you can photograph.
One tub is about three weeks at a full serving a day, so plan on three or four tubs for a proper course, and talk to us about buying them together.
Is Collagen Peptides Powder Right for You?
Collagen is a food protein and it is well tolerated. Our pharmacist is glad to go through it with you first if any of these apply:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding, where the manufacturer asks you to check with a doctor first.
- You have kidney disease or are on a protein-restricted diet, since this adds 10 grams of protein a day.
- You keep a halal, kosher or vegetarian diet. This collagen is bovine, so it is unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans, and we can tell you whether the sourcing meets your requirements.
- You are buying for someone under eighteen, or you take regular medicines.
Side effects are uncommon and mild, most often a little nausea or fullness, which usually settles if the powder is taken with food rather than on its own.
Storing It
Keep the tub tightly closed in a cool, dry place after opening, away from direct sunlight, and out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is collagen peptides powder good for?
Skin and joints, principally. A 2023 meta-analysis of 26 randomised trials found hydrolysed collagen significantly improved skin hydration and elasticity, and a 2025 placebo-controlled trial at 10 grams a day found joint pain and stiffness scores improved substantially over eight weeks. It also supplies 10 grams of clean protein per serving.
How much should I take, and for how long?
Two level tablespoons, 11 grams of powder, once a day. That delivers 10 grams of collagen, which is the dose used in the joint trial and at the upper end of the skin research. Give it eight to twelve weeks before judging it, because that is how long the studies ran.
How do I mix it?
Into water, juice, tea, coffee or a smoothie, hot or cold. It has very little taste of its own and disappears into morning chai as readily as into water. No particular time of day is needed.
How long does one tub last?
About three weeks at a full serving a day, from roughly 21 servings in a 227 gram tub. A proper course is three or four tubs, so ask us about buying them together.
What does hydrolysed mean?
Collagen in its natural form is a long molecule the gut struggles to absorb. Hydrolysing breaks it into short chains, called peptides, small enough to be absorbed and carried in the blood. That is what the research is done on, and it is why a powder does what a bowl of bone soup largely does not.
Is bovine collagen as good as marine collagen?
A fair question, and worth a straight answer. Most of the skin trials used marine collagen; bovine collagen is richer in the types found in skin, bone and tendon, and the peptides reaching the blood are broadly similar. The joint evidence is strong for bovine type I and III. If marine is specifically what you want, ask us what we have.
Is it suitable for vegetarians or vegans?
No. Collagen is an animal protein and this one is bovine. There is no true vegan collagen, although some products supply the vitamin C and amino acids the body uses to build its own; our pharmacist can talk you through those.
Does it contain allergens?
It is made without yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, corn, milk, egg, fish, shellfish or tree nut ingredients, which makes it one of the easier protein supplements for somebody with allergies.
Will it help my knees?
The evidence is encouraging. In the 2025 trial, scores for pain, stiffness and function improved significantly against placebo from week four, in adults taking 10 grams daily. If a knee problem is new, severe or swollen, see a doctor first rather than starting with a powder.
When will I see a difference in my skin?
Slowly, and more as a change in how your skin feels than something you photograph. The trials measured hydration and elasticity with instruments over eight to twelve weeks. Treat it as a long game rather than a quick result.
Can I take it with vitamin C?
Yes, and it is a sensible pairing. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation, which is an approved European health claim, so it supports the process your body carries out with the building blocks you are giving it. We stock several vitamin C products and our pharmacist can suggest one.
